    Leezen 1905

Here is a photo in which the unit has eluded identification. It is dated 17 Juli 1905, and cancelled postally in Leezen, which is in the vacinity of Schwerin. Being that the postal cancellation was from the other side of the lake from Schwerin, and the shoulder straps appear white, they might be...

    Shoulder Board

Adding to the above photo identified by Tony as the Kaiser Franz Garde-Grenadier-Regt. Nr.2, here is a rear band on a Gewehr 88: K.F.R.8.178. - Kaiser. Franz. Garde-Grenadier-Regiment. 8th Kompanie. 178th weapon. This is attached to a SA rifle that was a former Ecuador rifle. No chance that...

    Shoulder Board

I'll ask if he knows of any available. Here's another shoulder strap in need of I.D. Crappy angle, but this is as good as it gets: Originally I thought this fellow might be a Garde Landsturm soldier who was armed with an 88, but it is a French Lebel rifle M1886/93, which has a muzzle adaptor...

    Baden Feldgrau Tschako

I just last night found reference to this in Johan Somers, Imperial German Field Uniforms & Equipment 1907 - 1918, Volume 3. I lmao, how did I miss this? lol.. The second page of this volume, Chapter 15, page 835, ", Landsturm infantry units wore the number of their Infantry Brigade on both...

    Baden Feldgrau Tschako

Not to be contrary, but that is not so. I am also of the opinion that actually we are thinking along the same lines. The only affilliation we can see from this photo is that his battalion was assigned to the 56th Landsturm Brigade. Let's let Joe explain it, shall we? :) Here is a link to Col...

    Baden Feldgrau Tschako

Came across this Landsturm man recently. The highlight of this photo (no, not the Gew 88 ) is his feldgrau M1860 tschako with Baden wappen. His collar dogs identify him as a member of the 56th Landsturm Brigade. Circa August 1914 - April 1915.

    Fritz Hubig: Landsturmmann to Infantryman

Looking at the visors reflecting sunlight, I have to agree that these could be cloth. TThe shape is more kepi like, as the top is a narrower diameter than the part of the hats that the visor is attached to. Even on the later "coffee can" hats of the brownshirts, the top of the hat was the same...
