Ah that made me laugh, most collecting fields are compulsive whether we like it or not.....I'm a huge collector of a view different fields so that's why I laughed. Sometimes I just buy things to learn and then turn them over....do you suffer from that? I've enclosed that image. Aw wow...

Thanks for those images. I mentioned after you asked that the holes have been widened by about 5mm so now assuming it may have had the plate above? Just to clarify the original holes have been widened.

So the plate on mine is incorrect or are the markings confusing?.....still a newbie and interested

Thanks Amybellars. It was an all new experience having only ever worked on steel helmets, much prefer these. Yep....sitting pride of place as I write.

Knowing brass it'll be back to the way it was in no time but I prefer them this way. I'm not in the habit of spending my time cleaning brass all day so I'll be leaving it. It did have 'brasso' white residue prior to me buying it so it had been cleaned previously.

It's my first and it's actually the brass that I like and went after but we're all different.

There's a few things I've done to some of my stanhelms over time that others wouldn't agree with but I've not conditioned a leather strap or liner as it's intricate part of the use however pickelhaubes in my opinion are an object of beauty and gleam, hence why I wanted to 'out-part' this strap...

Hi Wojtek Thanks for your advise. When you say black paste, what is that? And there's a pickelhaube leather restorer? Yes it was off an M16 that I had and I knew when I bought them it wasn't the right chinstrap for a stanhelm. Wayne

I have an unusual request where I have a well used Brass fittings Chinstrap and want the same but not so used. My only Pickelhaube is somewhat immaculate and this strap is not. Unusual I know but I don't expect much but thought I'd put it out there anyway....you never know.
