I'm no expert on cloth, but those stamps look a little strange to me. Steve

    Cockades for your opinion

Norm Flayderman had the dies made up in the late sixties early seventies. He had acquired a cache of Prussian M95s that were missing the cockades. I'm guessing he also had dies made for the chinstrap fittings as well, but am only sure of the cockades. I knew a dealer in New Hampshire in the...

    Amoskeag and Julia Auctions

Didn't look too closely at the Julia auctions just noticed some were described as restorations. The Amoskeag auction is more interesting to me because I will be there. Here are some thoughts: #302 Prussian M1889 Uhlan Officer's Tshcapka.... with a M1915 shell? #304 Prussian enlisted man's 6th...

    Amoskeag and Julia Auctions

I hope everyone has seen the upcoming Amoskeag and Julia auctions. Julia has the Douglas Buhler collection and Amoskeag has Craig Brown's collection. Some very interesting helmets. Craig was more of a weapons guy as am I, but he had some decent helmets. In both auctions, there are helmets I...

    SOS 2017 B Loree #2

Wondered that myself. The shape of the shell and spike says "India" to me.

    My collection

I think I warned you about this when you announced your third child was on the way. The same thing happened to me. Raising three children I had neither the time nor the resources, and my collecting activities went into hibernation for some years. I had to part with some very nice toys. But at...

    Okay, I admit Defeat

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why couldn't it be the 1. Unter-Elassisches Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 31 stationed at Hagenau?

    Prussian Enlisted Garde Grenadier

The Kaiser Alexander miter has its own unique chinscales, not readily removable and not interchangeable with the pickelhaube. The First Foot Guard miter did utilize the same scales as the pickelhaube. Steve

    Ross M-10 Mk III Rifle

Good to see you back Chas. Nice Ross, the military models are scarce in presentable condition. I've always kept an eye out for one but they always seem to go for a little more than I want to pay. I do have an M-10 sporting Ross in .280, a very beautiful rifle. Maybe someday I'll work up the...

    Holes in Pickelhaube Body

I once owned a Bavarian M15 that had extra holes for the wappen very nicely plugged and refinished. I'm sure it was original, and the helmet was in unissued condition. Wish I still owned it. Steve

Beautiful helmets and a nice grouping. One thing I learned about spiked helmets many years ago - you can't have just one. Steve

    Collector Story Steve McFarland

"Helmets And Headdress Of The Imperial German Army 1870-1918" by Robert Rankin, published by Flayderman in 1965. The photographs in that book had the same effect on me. I still peruse it from time to time, and it still gives me a thrill. Steve

    For king and empire

In the last 10 years or so there has been a concerted effort on the part of the Brits to rehabilitate their reputation in World War I. Books with titles like "1918: A Very British Victory", books claiming the Somme battle was a British victory - all part of Haig's brilliant plan - etc. etc. ...

German Camouflage Stahlhelm M1916 with Totenkopf

I can't say everyone in Latvia is a faker, but the ones who sell things on ebay sure are. I wouldn't buy anything from Latvia either. No matter what it is. Some of their fakes are very sophisticated. You probably have a better chance of getting the real thing from India. Steve

Oops, missed the bf mark. Guess I was taken in by the flares. Good thing mine is an ET64, and came from a respected member of this forum. Steve

Someone will be burned — badly, I fear

I thought the shell looked OK - it has the correct "fender flares" at the cutouts, are the fakes getting that good? Something looked amiss with the paint and liner though, looked like a married piece. Steve
