    Baden DR20 Enlisted

This is soooooo nice! If I had to decide to collect only one sort of spike helmet, it should be the Dragoner.

I have also "doctored" a bit the photo. I still think I can see GR before KF.

The helmet is dated 1913. I checked: at that time, KFGGR2 helmets sported the star on the eagle.

Lars, this is not a Garde Grenadier helmet, but simply a Grenadier helmet (no Suum Cuique star on the eagle). It cannot be KFGGR2...

Magnificent. KR1 and 2 are among the most desirable spike helmets.

Very easy, John. Use China ink, which is water-based. Can be removed in no time with no damage if needed.

    Piggy bank

Jeff, I do have a Tschapka that at some point was turned into a piggy bank. A clean slit was cut at the top of the mortarboard. Later, someone was probably shocked by such a lack of respect and managed to fill the hole and hide the trace of that monetary episode in the life of the hat... job...

    Care for leather parts

For me, absolutely NO conserving treatment. So many liners have been ruined in spite of good intents. If leather is not decaying, light cleaning with a damp sponge at first and occasional dusting with a soft cloth, and that is it. Why would you want to "conserve" anyway? I have never seen a...

    enlisted Kammer helmet for I R 78

Congratulations, Steve. On this one below I did even better than you though :). 150 euro (original chinstrap included) at a small auction in central France. It was dirty but cleaned up well and is actually in really good condition. Stamped JR78.

    High polish

Thank you, Philippe. All are marked.... except for the artillery helmet. Undoubtedly genuine (came with original chinscales and cockade), but undoubtedly Eigentum. Thinner cardboard-like visors, thin, light tan liner... and no marking whatsoever.
