The plates are the same height even the interior size. It’s just a lower Shako. No doubt the reason why is out there somewhere, perhaps they had to duck their heads a lot or crawl through tight spaces who knows. Rob

Anyhow Mr picklehaube as I said you are wrong, sometimes you have to look beyond your first thoughts as you can see its a little Shako thats why the Eagle appears larger. Rob

So I bought this the other day as you do ( I added the chinstrap) didn’t need a grey plate but I noticed all the markings and decided it was a pre war shako with a heavily patinated Brass plate. And it was. However I’m not up on my markings. Any ideas? Thanks. Rob

Look like WW1 markings you need to add a close up. Could have been added, the knife I think is a WW2 dress bayonet that has had the grips replaced by wooden ones?

Looks like WW2 Frog that's had a new bit attached to the front, The Knife looks odd, lucky it was cheap! I personally would put it on ebay. Rob
