    Late airborne message

Bet you think that's an eagle on top of a GDC helmet. Actually it's a German pigeon (nasty fellows).

13th Uhlan Regiment Kammerstueck enlisted tschapkas

Interesting while they are from the same maker, the Wappen are clearly made with different tools.

    Summer Tellermuetze

First let me make sure we are talking about the same item. When I said to paint the ring, I meant the wire loop that fits within the cap to give it its shape. As to the use of Rustoleum, yes it would work. I've found that Rustoleum requires a longer drying time then other paints, just make sure...

    Summer Tellermuetze

I would remove the ring, give it a cleaning and then a light coat of paint. The paint can be easily removed if need be and it will protect the metal from rusting. Waxing or oiling the ring may stain the cloth.

Württemburg 123rd Grenadier Regiment - Puzzler

First - let me say that Uncle Al, was only talking about himself, his helmet had grey fittings. That's not to say others had something else. As to the top of the spike plug, there is no telling what soldiers will do. In 1918 the Kaiser Inspected this regiment, Uncle Al was given all new kit...

Württemburg 123rd Grenadier Regiment - Puzzler

My wife's Uncle Alfred served with IR 123, 1916-1918 and I spent hours talking to him about his service. His comment on the finish of the helmet was that they were grey. As to your spike - I would think that it was to conform to removable spike order and was retro fitted to the helmet while in...
