    The Mexican Haubes

Ok... it looks like a refitted Swedish Lievgarde helmet. You are right the eagle wings were separated and re-attached lower down. https://www.bukowskis.com/en/lots/931877-a-swedish-royal-cavalry-helmet-m-1879-1900-1928-early-20th-century

    The Mexican Haubes

While we await Arran to reveal more of his fantastic acquisition, I wonder if anybody has any remarks about this piece from an auction last November. It sold for $1800.00. It looks to me like a refitted Prussian kurassier helmet. The eagle is unique with its down turned wings as are other...

    Guard Wappen Without Bandeau Etc.

I don't have the ability to load pictures. I notice that it is about a third smaller than a standard guard eagle so I suspect it is for a non-military department. I had a forestry service eagle from the 1850's but the eagle stood on a trumpet but it was very similar to this one. Thanks

    Guard Wappen Without Bandeau Etc.

Is anyone familiar with a plate I have seen that is a standard guard eagle with spread wings and Prussian crown but lacking the sword, orb and bandeau. It is just the eagle without anything in its talons. Is this for burgerwehr or police? Some colonial eagles have empty talons but the crown...

    Early Pickelhuabe Plume Attachment

So this Hermann photo shows a removable spike for an 1848 model pickelhaube and we might presume that the spike could be unscrewed and replaced by a plume... Is that correct? The Knotel prints are what prompted my inquiry. Knotel illustrated an 1843 Prussian dragoon, a grenadier, and a...

    Early Pickelhuabe Plume Attachment

Does anyone have any information on how plumes were attached to the 1842 model enlisted men's helmets? I ask because in his description of his 1842 model Tony says that removable spike tops were not introduced until 1857. Does this mean that the guard regiments replaced the entire spike and...

Thanks again for posting. Its an impressive uniform, closer to a German "reiter" of this period than anything Austrian or French.
