    McCartney in WWI

As a matter of fact, I wrote some history of that video last week: https://www.forbes.com/sites/petersuciu/2022/12/19/a-forgotten-paul-mccartney-music-video-from-39-years-ago-reminds-us-of-the-1914-christmas-truce/ As I noted, it is barely remembered in the USA. I believe it only aired a few times.

Estonian Troops With a Mix of Firepower

Brian, I follow this daily as a reporter. Estonia has been one of the strongest supporters of Ukraine and has recently concluded a deal to purchase the U.S.-made HIMARS. The Baltic States have made it clear; "never again" will Moscow dominate them.

Estonian Troops With a Mix of Firepower

In my research I came across this public domain image of Estonia forces during the Estonian War of Independence in 1919. It is really fascinating that they have on a single train car multiple M1910 Maxims, a Lewis Gun and an M1895 Colt Browning machine gun - the latter likely one made by Marlin.

    Lisbon Museu Militar 2

I was fortunate enough to have obtained one of these helmets a few years (14 years WOW) ago. Not easy helmets to find.

    Arizona's Antique shops

Arizona is a BIG state. There is a store in Glendale, outside Phoenix - I believe it is just named Military Items. There is Flying Tiger Military Antiques and History by George, also in the Phoenix area. And Stewarts Military Antiques in Clarksdale. Phoenix also has a huge number of antique...

    Article on Military Board Games

Something I wrote on learning board game rules for Forbes.com - there are now channels that help teach you the rules. Boy I could have used this when I was young! https://www.forbes.com/sites/petersuciu/2022/11/16/youtube-channels-help-board-gamers-with-biggest-challenge--learning-the-rules/

From the British Dragoons to Household Cavalry by Peter Suciu

First, BRITISH cavalry helmets. You don't want to upset the Scots, Welsh and Irish! This is a British Life Guards other ranks uniform. The Lifeguards are one of the two current Household Cavalry regiments, the other being the Blues and Royals. This is still the current uniform, and if you visit...

Thank you for the kudos Tony. I do like those helmets (and uniforms).

Casques a Pointe et Coiffures Prestigieuses De L'armee Allemande 1842-1918

Apparently, I don't speak French. You are correct, they are both Volume 2. How about $100 for the copy with the dust jacket, and $75 for the other copy if anyone needs the second volume. I have NO idea why the former owner had two copies of the second volume. Maybe he made the same mistake I did.

Casques a Pointe et Coiffures Prestigieuses De L'armee Allemande 1842-1918

I recently bought some books, and this included the two-volume set of Casques a Pointe et Coiffures Prestigieuses De L'armee Allemande 1842-1918. Unfortunately, the dust jacket is missing with volume 1 and there is a scuff on the cover. But the books are in excellent condition. No smokey smell...

All Quiet on the Western Front

I agree, the lack of the training sequence really hurts the film, because we can't understand the significance of the death of those young men and what it means to Paul. The audience has almost no connection to them. If this was the direction that the writer/director wanted to go, I wish it...

All Quiet on the Western Front

The film has been available on Netflix for a whole day and no comments yet? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

Iowa Military Collector Society Show @ Johnston, IA: Nov 5, 2022

I'm impressed by the "free admission." I see some of the local shows by me increasing the price from $5 to $6, and honestly, I have to wonder if that keeps people from walking in with something to sell. I know I once bought some helmets in the parking lot at a show and the guy said, "well you...

Someone hit the jackpot (but not really)

Most I've found was a medal in a tunic pocket. Nothing like this: How A Couple Found Cache Of M16 Rifles In Surplus Cases Bought Online https://www.19fortyfive.com/2022/09/how-a-couple-found-cache-of-m16-rifles-in-surplus-cases-bought-online/

Bearskin cap of the English Guard

The Bearskin hat is worn by the five Foot Guards of the British Army including the Grenadier Guard, Coldstream Guard, Scots Guard, Irish Guard and Welsh Guard. I have never had a problem buying from Europe. I haven't seen one for a while, but I'll keep an eye out. These used to be common but...

What could it be? Plastic pickelhaube...

The first plastics were developed at the end of the 19th century, but molded plastic didn't begin until after the Second World War. It would have been very difficult to produce this before WWI. My guess is that it is a movie prop, and possibly for a more recent film. Ever since the 1990s, the...
