Doran Cart of the WWI Museum on All Quiet on the Western Front

The first trailer for the Netflix remake of All Quiet on the Western Front was released this week. Doran Cart, senior curator of the National World War I Museum in Kansas City was kind enough to share his opinions...

    MAX show 2022

The MAX Show has "evolved" since OVMS acquired it in late 2014. I've gone every year since 2015 after going some years and not others, and my purchases have included a Chinese Jingal (wall rifle) from the Taiping Rebellion, an Imperial German colonial slouch hat, and a couple of small cannons...

    Irish M27 Stahlhelm

Very few survived that weren't painted white. What is unique about these helmets is that they were originally painted dark green - and the paint reacted badly with the steel and turned to a very dark color that almost looks black. I've taken my Irish M27 helmet out in the sun and you can see it...

    MAX show 2022

Jay-- OVMS members can get in at noon on Thursday, while public is Friday at 9am. Honestly, as James suggested, get in as early as you. Most dealers will absolutely be set up by Thursday at noon.

New Minnesota Military Show @ Hastings MN Sept 17-18, 2022

I know Karl Kithier and Reefe Renforth quite well. I attend their shows in Michigan, but I haven't been to the Toledo show in a few years. I think it is a good show, but it is an hour and a half for me each way. With all the construction on I-75 that is an enough of excuse for me. It is a good...

SUMMER MEMORIES... THE CONSTRUCTION SITE BATTLEFIELD

My city has dug up the street a few blocks over as a new sewer is being put in. There has been a long trench, concrete pieces for the sewer lined up and huge mounds of dirt. It looks like a warzone, or at least a warzone a 12-year-old could appreciate. Nothing would have stopped my friends and...

    Hermann Historica Question

Good to know. Thanks for the insight. I guess we'll have a show-and-tell in a few weeks!

    Hermann Historica Question

I recently bid and "won" an item on Hermann Historica. This was last Thursday. I've emailed already, but I've never received an invoice. Is this normal with this auction house?

    Good for a laugh

This is rather funny or would be if someone wasn't bidding on it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/195059697910?hash=item2d6a76c8f6:g:4VwAAOSwqB9igvQG Germany of course never used American-made sun helmets. Here is a $10 cockade on a $200 helmet.

Toronto Militaria Show April 2, 2022

Looking at the Canadian Universal Pattern helmet (the white sun helmet) I'd need to see the inside. I'm thinking that one is an early badge on a reproduction helmet sadly aged up. I've seen such helmets at nearly every Toronto Show. Someone has rare badges and dresses up a latter helmet. The...

Toronto Militaria Show April 2, 2022

Brian, you're killing me with these photos. We had seriously considered making the trip from Michigan, but decided that we'd wait until the next one. We weren't sure if the show would have been any good and didn't want to deal with crossing the border. Now from the photos it would have been...

    Inflation to Hyperinflation

I doubt we'll see hyperinflation, but instead will likely see a prolonged period of high inflation, which will likely lead to a recession. The people who have the most wealth have the means to ensure we don't reach a level of hyperinflation, as it would impact them whereas the high inflation and...

Out of shape and looking for a way to get some exercise.

I had brought one of my road bikes to Show Of Shows last summer (boy I'd love to see the show in the summer just to be able to do that every year). I rode each morning before the show. You can cross the Ohio River over a former railroad bridge near downtown and there is a lovely path on the...

Out of shape and looking for a way to get some exercise.

Gus, maybe 6 to 8 hours on a stationary bike is what you need.

    Our Fearless Leader is injured

8 hours? Gus, something is wrong... riders in the Tour de France are on their bikes for eight hours only in the longest stages. As a serious cyclist I can't imagine riding eight hours daily - stationary bike or not. Brian-- make sure you don't have a PT like the one Gus had!
