    Authentic Pickelhaube?

My first Pickelhaube was a horrible fake, my second a real score, why? because I bought some good books and joined this forum. Study good references, look at examples on this site and soon enough you will be able to look at most helmets in one short glance and know that its a fake.

Hanseatic & Saxon Ersatz Schirmmützen WW1

Sounds like a wise tale to me but who knows. I have read that they were developed without the visor so they could be better used with a gas mask. Given that only around 5,000 were made though makes them very very rare and desirable. They remind me of Darth Vader helmet.

Hanseatic & Saxon Ersatz Schirmmützen WW1

The Saxon cap I think is of the style of the Freikorps/Reichswehr post 1918. I am not sure if these were around during WW1, maybe towards the end? Possibly like the visorless steel helmets, produced during the end of the war but only used after.

    Officer and OR's Kokarden

Great post! I had thought of it too but didn't get around to doing it. Hopefully it will become a "sticky" post because it is a very complex issue. Lots and lots of fakes and repros out there. It would be good to see fakes next to originals, especially the rare kokarden for color comparison.

    Ive been bird watching

I have been looking into a lot of things concerning the GDC and GKR wappens and parade eagle models for EM and NCO/Fähnrich models. Silver crown, brass crown or gilt crown on a parade eagle? what type of wappen goes with a certain parade eagle and what kokarden? What are the characteristics of...

    Hey Joe Take a look at this example from someone's collection, it also has the diagonal "rope" pattern but different eagle. :wink: http://www.pickelhauben.net/pickelhaube/GdKurr.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    Ive been bird watching

So here is another of those complex issues, that of wappen variations. In particular those of EM's GDC and GKR wappens and those little black birds in the middle. I have been looking at reference pictures in books and all over the internet for examples. I decided for the most part they all...

Study of the screws and nuts of the Pickelhaube

I was wondering if any of these examples listed by KAGGR 1870 applies to G.D.C. and G.K.R. parade eagles? I have been looking into parade eagles for EM helmets lately. I have seen many different examples but I have attached two examples that seem to be the most different in comparison. It would...

    GDC Metalhelme

Thats the word on the street. Should this helmet have the KBAG stamp on it and in the liner? maybe im wrong but i don't think I have seen that stamp on one of these before. Shouldn't have the GKR marking instead?

Prussian Guard M1915 Off. Pickelhaube - What a Shame!!

Looks like a earlier version reserve eagle wappen and star to me. I would say there are some nice parts here but this helmet as a whole is one big frankenstein mess. its has been messed around with a little too much. [-(

Prussian Ulanen M15 EM Tschapka Mortarborad Anyone?

the M15 mortarboard, NO WAY. the EM Feldzeichen, maybe, but you might have to flip another piece of headgear to gain that item. The chinstrap and cockade, you know, they come around sometimes. :)

Prussian M1915 EM Ersatz Felt Shako

This is being sold by Bruce Herman from Grenadier Military Antiques. He is a good guy and I have bought a couple helmets from him and have been very pleased. He is well known in military collectable market. I would say the Shako is original...
