    The Mexican Haubes

I am delighted to see these excellent photos. I knew the helmets were there but I wonder why? I suspect they were never shipped to Mexico. One of these sold at Hermann Historica about a decade ago for over $100,000. When Mexican friends go to Austria, Austrian customs officials love to point...

    The Mexican Haubes

Here are some Post-Revolution Cadets. They are wearing the spread-wing eagle. I think the helmet Arran posted is the very early modelof 1905. I'm not sure that I have ever even seen a photo of this helmet before. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=30k9grn&s=9#.WmI6_B1G0u8"...

Kk, I think your box is full and I could not respond. You are lucky to have that. There was just one plate used-- the spread wing eagle and they were all the same size. The other eagle discussed here seems to have had other purposes such as use by the military academy.

I agree. It has an assembled vibe to it. The eagle is mounted very low on the helmet for example. I am very interested to see that possible academy helmet. I find myself up and around the Chapultepec castle in the summers and see the students exercising, parading and so forth and try to...

Arran's observation on this helmet he found is very interesting. The white plume was worn by aspirantes at the Chapultepec military academy. Looking closely at this photo of aspirantes training with artillery it looks as if they are wearing a plate with this configuration -- much more circular...

A Porfiriato period metalhelm with this same plate is depicted in the 1979 publication "El Ejercito Mexicano." Neither this nor the Phoenix helmet are shown in any published official uniform regulations. It may be that these are helmets purchased for independent state militia or police units...

    I'm Almost Tempted

Hello Sergei, I was writing a message to you to inquire if you have information on how I might contact the craftsman who makes the 1842 helmet directly. I believe your e-mail box is full and so my message cannot go through. If you have information you can share, can you empty your box? I...

I posted the URL and the Photobucket logo comes up. Is this working? The fact that the helmet (with a small spike?) appears in the catalog suggests that someone ordered it for Mexican use. What type of plate appears in the catalog? Is there a copy of the catalog on line for download or is...

    The Mexican Haubes

I have stared at that Arizona plate on line for some time. i have not come across it in any museum collections in Mexico so we would need the assistance of a Mexican collector like Henry who founded this discussion with his collection I guess. It does not appear in any published official...

Sergei1877 Do you know if the maker creates these entirely in leather including the korpus?

    Expensive Reproductions at Auction?

I entirely agree. I purchased a helmet last year from them that turned out to be a mix of parts. This year I bid on an 1843/53 Kurassier helmet in relic condition missing plate, chin scale, and liner that was listed with three costume pieces and an Austrian police shako. Incredibly the lot...

    Hessen-Kassel Garde du Corps Helmet

Thank you so very much, very generous!! Interesting variations on officer spike and so forth. Graphic documentation always shows the plume. Yet another elegant force that entirely evaporated with 1866. Examining the side view of one of the helmets in your photographs, I spot some silver trim...

    Hessen-Kassel Garde du Corps Helmet

We tend to think of the three Prussian units that wore tombac helmets but being interested in German States period headgear and seeing the recent post by Dragoner of the outstanding Prussian Garde du Corps officer's helmet he acquired I thought I would share a discovery I made today. Its an...

A mistake in my youth --- or not?

There are a number of these around. There has already been discussion on the use of these standard infantry spikes on JzuP helmets. I don't know if there are any new opinions about Kurassier helmets. Some members seem to think the spikes were applied when they came into the country for the...

This must have been the Saxon helmet that appeared recently and has now disappeared. That's an astounding figure.

    Expensive Reproductions at Auction?

Does anyone have any insights as to why these helmets sold for nearly $1500.00? The Saxon helmet still appears on Ebay for around $100.00. Is there some chance that the Garde du Corps helmet is real...
