I have had one of these for more than 20 years. Can't even remember where I got it, but I believe it is a costume piece as my inside looks the same. So there is nothing missing, they were just cheaply made. Where did your friend get it?

Does anyone know a collector who owns an original WWI German ski troops cap? I'm looking to get photos. Bavaria or Wurttemberg, does not matter as long as it's authentic. Thanks in advance for any leads.

Here is my latest find...acquired from a Czech collector. You may have seen this 1917 dated cap already as he has posted it on another forum.

I think you are correct to be suspicious. The front detail is nice but I agree that the lines do indicate that this was cast. The lack of detail on the reverse side also indicate a cast. I'm sorry but I think it is a fake.

Chip, I thought your hechtgrau felt cap had a one piece body? I haven't looked at the photo for a while. The cap was not factory made as a kaiserschutzen cap, but had a pocket sewn on later. When I got the cap all that remained of the feathers was the stems and a little white fluff. Yep...

Thanks for posting that last cap. Very nice. Just to keep things rolling on this thread...here is a shot showing the badges/kappenabzeichen on the latest addition to my collection. I only have three caps that I can say for sure that the badges are original to the cap and this is one of them...

Chip, I have several caps with visors that thick and I have seen plenty others. Seems like it varied between maker. Brian

Markgraf, I just noticed on looking again that your cap has a Honved IFJ cockade. As far as you know is it original to the cap? If so...too bad it's nor issue stamped. Honved caps are really hard to find. Would you sond me any and all pics you have of this cap? I would really appreciate...

Here is another... Typical red wool regulation lagerkappe for prewar mounted troops...but this cap is dated 1916!
