Books about pickelhaube and similia from beginning to pre-Great War

The one and only book unfortunately doesn’t exist. But beside the book John recommended, the book „Die Organisation, Bekleidung, Ausrüstung und Bewaffnung der königlich Bayerischen Armee von 1806-1906“ is also very recommendable. It contains 2 volumes, a text and picture book, and was published...

    New addition for the library

Great to know Francis, I didn’t know this book(y) I saw that there are also editions from 1942 available (3rd edition). Do you know when the 1st edition was published?

    An unknown Sword

The crowned M on the handle and the crowned L on the blade show that it is a Bavarian sword. The M stand for King Maximilian ? of Bavaria and the L for King Ludwig ? of Bavaria. I guess it's Maximillian II and Ludwig I, but it's just my tip. Unfortunately, I cannot say whether it is a Saber...

A Garde Infanterie M95 enlisted haube came my way.

    Great find Coert, congratulations (y)

Prussian Artillery, new to the collection :)

It is the other way around, Coert. The helmets M1895 and M1915 of the field artillery had no ventilation slide on the rear spine. The reason behind this was that it was a mounted unit.

Any US members now living in Europe (Germany) with advice

Dear Justin, I believe that spending time abroad is definitely an enriching experience. Get to know other cultures broaden your horizons and your perspective on the world. We Germans aren’t as stiff and humorless as the stereotypes suggest ;). However, public television is an exception. It is...

    French Cahiers de Terra Culturae

These guides are really great. It’s really sad this website is down, but I luckily downloaded them mostly all years ago.

    Question on Wappen.

Didn’t we already discuss this eagle? It belongs to a helmet M1853, where someone unfortunately tried to straighten the shell and flattened the vertical rib at the back of the helmet: https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/1843-53-60-kurassier-helmet.21373/#post-164044 Anyway, I believe it’s...

    Second life is possible?

I think it’s possible to improve the condition, but it won’t look perfect. Wojtek here in our forum does an incredibly valuable job here. You should ask him for his assessment. I would have the soldering done by a professional, but to clean the metal you could do the following: Mix fine chalk...

PS: Reiner und Leone, would you please add photos of your helmet eagles to this post about Colberg officer emblems? I think it would be great to have as many different styles of helmet eagles as possible together. Link: Colberg 1807 officer emblems
