    Colonial Officer Sword

One must bear in mind that the circa 1933 nationalized German Police inherited the traditions of the Colonial Schutz-truppen and Polizei-truppen. One of the things they inherited after the 1936 Polizei uniform changes was the Colonial Officer Portepee. So, a similar Portepee for Police NCO...

    Colonial Officer Sword

Thank you all for your interest and feedback. Clovis, here is the Prussian Land Gendarmerie version of your Reichsland short sword. Of course the Prussian examples have the regular Prussian eagle in the guard and are property marked "L.G." on the guard and the top fitting of the scabbard...

    Colonial Officer Sword

Gents, I would like to show an interesting Imperial German Colonial Officer Sword. This is the so-called (by some) "old style" Colonial sword made in the style of a Prussian Infantry Officer Degen (IOD). The so-called old model is characterized by having the Imperial eagle on the guard face to...

    Leather Feuerwehr Helmet

Thanks for the response Clovis. Yes, I have seen this style of helmet with the comb with various front plates or even no front plate at all. I have even seen the comb topped with the Artillery ball of the style shown on the left helmet you showed. Lots of variations on a theme with these. As...

    Leather Feuerwehr Helmet

Gents, I thought I would post a Leather Feuerwehr (FW) helmet for a NCO or Officer that I picked up recently. This helmet was made for a generic Fire Department as evidenced by the front Wappen plate. Notice the black leather helmet corpus has a brass comb that usually denotes a Sergeant or...

    Justizvollzugsanstalten NCO Uniform

Thank you for the kudos. One never knows where the next material culture artifact will show up. It is the same with a walk-in at a militaria/gun show. These particular Justiz uniforms are not only obscure but seem to be variations on a theme as uniform regulations changed over time. If the...

    Justizvollzugsanstalten NCO Uniform

The mention of a Justizvollzugsanstalten (Justice Police) Uniform ought to attract some attention as they are quite scarce in my experience. I recently picked up an interesting variation of the Justiz Prison Official tunic that I thought I would show. An obscure service branch including...

    '57er German Awards

Gents, I noticed there have been a couple of very interesting threads on the Iron Cross and the Wound Badge recently. There is an often overlooked version of these, and other, awards and that is the 1957 version of WWII German awards. These are known as "'57er" awards and are basically the...

German Proofed .380 Dreyse Revolvers Constabulary Type - Berlin Police Revolvers?

Thank you. The German Police used revolvers prior to circa 1900 when they adopted the then new semi-automatic pistols. They also utilized the large caliber Reichsrevolvers and kept some revolvers in arms room storage for emergencies.

    A Colonial Veteran Postcard

Gents, Here is an interesting Colonial Veteran Association postcard. The card shows various Colonial uniforms worn by the Schutztruppe and Polizeitruppe during the war. A nice quick overview of what was worn by German and Native troops.

    Kinder Seitengewehr

Yes, never say never but generally speaking when you find a brown leather frog with a pointed bottom to the pocket it will be Bavarian. Not all Bavarian Seitengewehre had pointed frogs but pointed frogs are generally Bavarian if you get the distinction. Here is one for a KS98 style bayonet.

    Kinder Seitengewehr

Thank you for the comment Jonas. You might have also noticed that the riveted frog is distinctly Bavarian with a V shaped bottom to the brown pressed paper pocket. The blue & white Troddel made in Bavarian colors could approximate a NCO style knot. I like these little child swords and edged...
