Helmets and gear collected from the battlefield

Hi, The Germans had special units to recover items from the battlefield that could be sent back, refurbished, and used again. I can only assume these units also recovered aluminium items so the metal could be used by the arms industry. Maybe this picture is taken in Germany, after they just...

    1 year volunteer Braunschweig Pelzmuetze

Hi, Do you have some pictures of the inside? I'm no expert on the Totenkopf, but what I have read on this forum is that they should have a lot of detail, and I don't see a lot of detail here. I hope I'm wrong. Regards, Lars

    regiment steins

Hi Steve, Not collect them as such, but as I collect militaria based on regimental association I do have one of F.R. 39. I bought mine for just over 100 euro, and I'm thinking that when the soldiers bought theirs it must have cost them a lot more, relative to their income. Regards, Lars

    M16 with an Uberzug

Hi, I fully agree, the stamp looks like a poor fake, and that doesn’t bode well for the originality of the cover :) Regards, Lars

Help! Is this Pickelhaube real or not?

Welcome to the forum :), I agree with Wojtek's and Brian's comments above. The holes for the Wappen seem to have been moved and new grommets put in, so this might be an older helmet that has been reused during the First World War, maybe even reduced in height (that might be visible underneath...

    Help Identifying

Thank you for posting the pictures of the inside, it doesn't look like the helmet has been reduced in height (as you would see the stitching lines of the old Ohrenleder below the current stitch line). Regards, Lars

    The Jensen collection

Hi Dane, Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your collection. I also started collecting as a teenager (some time ago :)) , but not very focused, certainly no pickelhaubes or tschakos. Your collection is a very nice mixture. I hope you will present some of your items in detail. Regards, Lars

    Help Identifying

Hi, Welcome! Agree with comments above. An M95 helmet converted to M15, the clearest indication are the grommets that are still brass, (hard to replace for very little gain) while the rest is field grey. When the war started brass became scarce very quickly in Germany (as did aluminium &...

Brass Picture from the " Großherzog Baden " Fleamarket

Very nice, congratulations! The patina on the metal looks really nice, so I would leave that as it is, but I would fix the frame, as it just looks damaged. Regardless of what you do, an excellent find. Regards, Lars

IR13 Westphalia Infantry Regiment Herwath von Bittenfeld

Hi, One of my great uncles passed through I.R. 13 during the First World War, he was an Armierungssoldat (construction soldier) and I.R. 13 was his Ersatztruppenteil (no idea how to translate that :)). I don't have a lot of items, but I'll show what I have. Regards, Lars

    Baden Landwehr M95

Thank you for your kind offer Wojtek, but even sending empty ammo clips is a sure way of getting unwanted police attention :) I don’t mind that it’s shrunk, I have enough “unshrunk” ones. Regards, Lars

    Baden Landwehr M95

Hi Wojtek, I don't want to capture the thread, but I really like how you have recovered these old leather battlefield finds into something useful. I've only done that once, with the parts from at least two battlefield WW I German ammo pouches. The result (black pouch on top) looks nice, but has...

(Near) Mint Shoulder Straps on Ebay

Hi Steve, I don't want to name sellers here as I don't know whether the shoulder straps are originals or fakes, and it could be a false accusation. I sent you a PM. Regards, Lars
