M16 with an Uberzug

Personally, the "BA X1" Depot mark seems off to me. Should the 1 not be a Roman numeral like the 10 as in BA XI? That is what I've commonly seen with these Depot marks.

From the research I've done, it seems no two examples I've come across on the internet are the same.

If anyone has an example of an Uberzug for an m16 or the likes thereof, please share if you don't mind.

Also, I am happy to receive any good recommendations for literature on the subject. I've recently started the Feldzug series by Michael Baldwin.

Cheers!

Hi Alex -
To reply to your inquiry and Lars' comment, not only is the stamp an egregious forgery, but the cover itself very closely resembles the fakes making the rounds in the 1980's and 90's, mostly in Europe. I have one of these covers that came from a Belgian dealer 25 years ago, who "wouldn't guarantee" it but sold it at a repro price. Fortunately mine is unmarked but is made of a similar woven cotton having a 3-piece construction nicely fitted with 3 careful seams running front to back, with the material artificially stained and soiled, as is the darkened leather vent accents. There's a hemp cord drawstring and it fits a size 66 Stahlhelm perfectly. I kept it since it looks OK and I don't have a real one.

Over the years I've only seen 6 or 7 of these that were real and the best ones I would trust are those made of paper cloth, or 'Papierstoff' sandbag material, although period photos show a lot of cotton cloth examples too.

That’s a fake indeed.

I tried to post photos of one I used to own on its original shell back when I was collecting stahlhem in another life (and to this day regret selling this one!) but the forum says the photos are too large to upload.

I’ll try to downsize them tomorrow and post.

Do not like it at all. Big NO NO to me. Also in my opinion the material structure is wrong, compare the original examples that I have seen.

Thanks to all who've responded, I appreciate the breadth of knowledge and enthusiasm this forum has to offer!

I find myself learning something new daily, thanks to the likes of those who are happy to share their knowledge and experience.

Thank you, everyone,

Alex
