It looks good to me and yes that”fixation” system for the wappen is only found on the older helmets in my experience.

Personally, I would clean it in order to determine exactly what is hidden under all of the oxidization. Something as dark as this would require a sonic cleaner which I have used in the past.

In support of the comments above. In all cases of original leather Pickelhauben, shakos etc the waterproof shellac finish is applied to the flesh side of the leather. This rough surface naturally provides better adhesion for the shellac and this is why it was done. I have no idea why modern...

Unless you need the metal fittings, this is not a good first helmet for you to buy. (n)

Yes, total fake! Note as well David, the large stitches holding both visors on and the brass fittings have been chemically age

I could use the star as I have a neusilber Garde officer in my collection which is missing one! My cost estimate for an original would be $700-800 US. The screw posts, nuts etc are also obviously new. (n) (n)
