SOLD: Model 1915 Prussian Guard Shako complete w/Chinstrap + Kokarde + Feldzeichen

Same here! Lastly, I would like to point out that the value of the kokarde, feldzeichen and original chin strap alone exceeds $600US. Try and buy these separately if you can find them. So in reality this is a rare opportunity to buy a complete shako at a reasonable price.

Help with Coblenz (Koblenz) Postcard Text

I love the penmanship! My father insisted that I begin my writing career with a fountain pen once I left elementary school! 😊 The ball point produces sloppy writing.

    My DR 19 Officer Helmet

My thanks to all for their positive comments here. As usual, Tony S put me on to...well why not have a board to match the helmet? So again, who do you know that might have a DR 19 board to spare? Naturally you contact Steve McF and he comes through with a very nice example to go along with the...

    Baden Officer Wappen Cleaned

If that is the condition that you like Gino, that is great. Again as a collector, you own the helmet and it is your decision to clean or not to clean.

    My DR 19 Officer Helmet

I mentioned this helmet it a recent post where I cleaned up a Baden Officer wappen. I have owned this since the 1980's and have used it as my avatar for decades. Some photos: I mentioned in my previous post that this has silver plated fittings. If you have ever seen an old silver plate tea...

Anything that supports the helmet so it is not resting on the visors. You want to keep weight off them. Some collectors use wine glasses, coffee cans, a wooden hat stand. We don’t encourage styrofoam head forms as they can chemically react to the leather. I have even used ceramic plant pots as...

Most times Boyd the round manufacturers' stamps can't be read. You have to remember your helmet is over 100yrs old and it's been sweated in at the very least. It is lucky to have survived! Trying to read German names scrawled onto leather is also very difficult. They used a different style of...

Unfortunately, no they look to be in pencil?? One trick is to take the helmet out into bright sunlight. Try and light up the area with sunshine and see what there is. The other trick is to apply some spit to the area and then light it up with sun light. Crude but sometimes effective.

Welcome to the forum Boyd. That is a very nice Guard helmet with nickel silver fittings. It could be Guard Pioneer or it could also be from one of the other Guard Regts. who wore helmets with silver fittings. The buttons on the pre 1910 tunic would also have matched. Your helmet needs a bit of...

    Baden Officer Wappen Cleaned

This wappen came off a scrapper helmet that I recently traded/bought. The shell and sweatband were in tatters and the silk was missing. however I did get a set of scales, kokarden, spike etc. Anyway, I decided to clean the wappen as it was too oxidized for my taste. Here are the before and after...
