Lexol Help with dried out leather liners / chinstraps

Living in the UK I have never heard of Lexol but there is something else available here which members might like to consider to soften and protect fine leather. It is called British Museum Leather Dressing and is used by the British Museum and other conservators to preserve antique leather book...

Posting Pics in New Forum 2018

Thanks Brian for your more detailed instructions on how to use the new photo posting. As detailed in my post in the Welcome section I am having the same problem as Sandmann - if I preview before submitting a post I lose all photos apart from one. Is there an answer to this other than not...

    ADDING PICTURES TO POST

Hi Sandy Interesting that I am not the only one with this frustrating problem. I use a PC with Windows 10 and I have been careful to reduce my picture sizes down to a small 576x432 pixels so as not to overload the server. Let's hope the digital boffins can sort this out for us. Regards Peter

    ADDING PICTURES TO POST

Hi Coert Thanks for your reply - much appreciated. A couple of days ago I posted an item into Pickelhaube Discussion entitled "Fixed spike M15 helmets". You will see there that only one attachment appears despite 5 having been selected and loaded. A green line appeared under each one to show...

    ADDING PICTURES TO POST

Hi Coert I followed the instructions in your post but something isn't working. I am able to add a list of photos to the "add files" box and can see that they have all been "green lined" to indicate that they have been loaded. To get them into my post I have been pressing the "add images" button...

    Fixed spike M15 helmets

Sorry chaps...I posted 5 photos all of which showed up on the preview. No idea why the submitted post only has one! Peter

    Fixed spike M15 helmets

Back in 2011 there was an interesting discussion on the forum about these variants and I wonder if we might revive the topic to see if any fresh information about them has come to light since. I have attached photos of my Prussian infantry example which was made by Wilhelm "something" of...

    Posting photos - the latest

Thanks Brian. I was looking in the wrong place! I'll study the Welcome posts and will hopefully be able to start posting photos again. Peter

    Posting photos - the latest

Gentlemen Am I right in thinking that, under the new site format, it is now possible to post photos without the need for a third party such as Picorator? If so, can someone please guide me on how to transfer a photo from Microsoft's documents and insert it into a forum post? Many thanks. WEIMAR

Info Needed On Saxon Ersatz Tin

Hi Pickelhauben The liner in your helmet is identical to the liners which I have in a couple of Nazi civic helmets - Police and Luftschutz. These liners are Belgian and were typically fitted by the Germans in WW2 when they used anything they could utilize. The Nazi fitted ones are often marked...

    Bullet versus blade

Some years ago this came into a friend's antique shop from a house clearance. I have no other provenance. It is a standard British WW1 jack knife which has received a hit from a Mauser bullet. The bullet must have been fired from extreme range to have lost enough energy not to have gone through...

    Finally complete

    Baden Filzhelm

Chas You have a super helmet there. The colour of the felt looks to be identical to mine. My wappen is retained with the usual leather wedges. Those Baden wappen always look so impressive, I think. Regards Peter

    Baden Filzhelm

Thanks everyone for your comments and to Tony for correcting the typo. Steve, I am 71 and got my first pickelhaube from a local junk shop when I was about 14. A Prussian M95 which I still have. I do not have a large collection but every now and again the bug comes back to bite and I start...

    Baden Filzhelm

Hi All This is not really a latest find as I have owned it for about 50 years. It is a Baden Filzhelm without front peak trim or rear spine. The front plate is steel ( it attracts a magnet ) and in the photos it appears to be a grey colour. In fact, it is a dark green but I cannot tell if it...
