I think this is a model 1845 Prussian Kurass. It was made by Wilhelm Jaeger and was accepted into service in 1870. There are no unit marks, but both the front and back plates are marked A 70. Possibly a serial number? The interior of the front plate has a 68 stamped in on the skirt. It also...

I think it is HR17. There appears to be a totenkopf on the schirmmutze and the feldzeichen looks like Braunschweig yellow/blue

It’s not a military uniform. Is there any indication of who the photographer was or where it was taken (they frequently had that printed on the cardboard they mounted the photo on)? Perhaps some type of civil service?

Anything produced before about 1890 is not considered a firearm under federal law. Don’t need a background check to buy them
