    Dreyse 1862 Cleaning rod

Yes, I noticed that and just inquired about that with him. I would assume the cleaning rods are not interchangeable in the rod-bore?

    M1864 - deciphering markings

Thank you Clovis and all for the info. The neck of the scabbard also what appears to be "136. R. 52. 3" - heavy marred by whatever device they used back then to make the checkered pattern.

Sure thing, Lars! Interesting I would've thought the crowned A signified the ruler of that state. Thanks for the input.

    M1864 - deciphering markings

In the process of building a 1870 display, I recently acquired an M1864 style Faschinenmesser. Comes with a dizzying array of markings on the blade and throat/chape I can't decipher; plenty of ciphers are present. Anyone more knowledgeable on these markings is great appreciated. Based on how...

Pickelhaube Reproductions (besides the M1895) in 2023?

I figured as much. I have heard from a colleague that their main/only sutler passed away? The company still operates on eBay which is odd (with month old reviews). One imagines a company would enjoy the prospect of excited new patrons.

Pickelhaube Reproductions (besides the M1895) in 2023?

Hello all, Is anyone aware of a reliable source for reproduction Pickelhauben suited to the Franco-Prussian or 1866 War? I am in the market for a repro of either an M1860 or M1867 haube. Finding anything appears to be getting impossible. I have inquired on the Polish site Spikehelmets.pl have...

    Mecklenburg Dragoon Regt 17

Stunning find. Visor qualities and cruciform base are reminiscent of the 1860's variations. Admittedly jealous. regards, -BW

More Dunkelblau - hard and fast rules for cuffs?

In the course of my exploration looking for a "first" tunic, I came across this piece purportedly belonging to the Rheinisches Infanterie Regiment Nr.65. Kaiser's bunker offers a large list of the regiments and their subsequent uniform details (brief though). The site's sources and some cursory...

    M1895 Waffenrock - opinions

It must be some kind of "frankenstein" piece. The overall cut looks convincing but the aforementioned inconsistencies are off putting. The search for "Dunkelblau" continues.

    M1895 Waffenrock - opinions

Good eyes, Lars (and genealogical knowledge), very unusual indeed. I'm scratching my head at the shoulder boards. I was pouring over some of the older posts here and found an identical ovular marking (in a visored Feldmuetze on DerRittmeister) - except it being "Amsterdam" and not "Groningen"...

    M1895 Waffenrock - opinions

Hello all, Any opinions on the this piece? The only clothiers mark on the tunic is a ovular one and appear to read "Gröningen" with what looks like the word "Costumier" in the middle. There is a Gröningen, Saxony, otherwise a Dutch made article would be odd. Could the lack of Bekleidungsamt...

Thanks for your reply and the welcome, Lars. Here's the full version. I think I'm seeing the very edge of a Brandenburg style cuff by his daughter on the right. He would've been around 30/31 - probably too young for the Landsturm. @KAGGER#1 I do not know, it is very possible.

Hello all, first post. Maybe before the Bundesarchiv gets back to me maybe I can find out more here from more knowledgeable members. Great-great grandfather Gustave T.R. Albrecht, born 9/3/1883 likely in Königsberg. Married, moved to Berlin. This is a detail of a family photo from 1905/10. All I...
