1. Garde Regiment zu Fuss Unteroffizier

Thank you very much, John. Much appreciated. If it wasn’t for your original post, I wouldn’t have the waffenrock from Steve, so thanks again!
All the best
Michael

Thanks very much Steve. Couldn’t have done it without you!
One day I hope to have a mitre for a Grenadier as well, but it will take time.
All the best
Michael
I know that I placed that Waffenrock with the right
owner. I could have never done what you did.
IMO the leather works would be the hard part.
Where did you locate it ?
Steve

Thanks again Steve. I have collected the equipment over a number of years, as and when I have come across it. The white belt and brass buckle came from German eBay about 10 to 15 years ago, the tornister with white shoulder straps came from a French auction which included a really good old collection about 5 years ago and the ammunition pouches are from an army surplus store(!) in Vancouver (Canada) around 1980 - they had a box full for $5 each and I picked out 4 in the best condition. The black private purchase belt came from Weitze and the bayonet with private purchase/ walking out or dress frog came from an auction in England around 20 years ago. Still looking for a white bayonet frog to complete the white set.
All the best
Michael

Thanks for the reply
I had a super 1 G R zu Fuss bayonet with engraved blade
and white frog that I sold to a collector friend a few years ago.
I just heard today that he wants to sell it.
Another collector friend is thinking about buying it
If my friend does not buy it
I will let you know in case you might be interested.
Steve

Hello,
congratulations for this beautiful sharing. I like it.

Simply, a small remark (constructive to correct):
The helmet "Eigentum", does not conform because it shows two inconsistent elements:
---If it is a helmet of an Einjährig Freiwilliger, it must have troop cockades, and no tip base stars. It has the correct "troop" Guard star.
---If it is an officer's helmet, it must have officer's cockades, tip base stars as here, and the enameled Guard star, of the officers.

Only one plausible explanation for your helmet, it could be the helmet of a "0ffizierstellvertreter", i.e. a "Compagnie-Feldwebel" promoted to 0fficer, at the front, as a provisional of war. (Second lieutenant, not graduated from the officer school).
A peacetime Fähnrich would have no base stars, officer's cockades, and an enameled Guard star.
The second photo shows a Guard officer's helmet, with the tip attachment stars and the enameled Guard officer's good star.

Hi Clovis
Thank you for your comments and useful explanation. I do find private purchase helmets and the regulations as to what and what was not allowed quite confusing. I just included that Pickelhaube with the waffenrock in that photo as I thought they reflected that picture of the NCO who appears to be wearing a very similar Pickelhaube.
All the best

Hi Snaffles,
Yes you are right, almost identical helmet, but the one in the photo shows a Prussian Landkokarde troop and being an EW (voluntary enlisted of a Year) we do not see, but it necessarily has rivets to fix the tip. On the "Extra-Helm", the rivets are in fact screws.
The photo shows a non-officer Extra-Helm of a Leib-Grenadier-Bade: The crown of the griffin is openwork, the point is with Perlring "officer" what was authorized for a trooper in fancy helmet.
On the other hand the star of the order is not enamelled, and one sees well the screws with round head resembling the rivets with folding lugs.

Hi Mickael,
I agree with this comment. Here is a summary by grade (I keep the grades in German, to avoid confusion):
Although being privately purchased headgear, certain regulatory standards, distinctive of the officer were prohibited to those who were not. The officer's perlring, the openwork crown, other trimmings, such as the M71 chinstrap after 1895 were authorized for the troop in fancy helmets (forbidden to wear in service).

---Troop, NCO, Unter-0ffizier-Portepee", Ein oder Zweijährig Freiwilliger :
--- never a tip attachment star, never enamel the Guards star or provincial order.
--- troop cockades, except "Porteepee" cockades for Feldwebel, Wachtmeister and others.

---Fähnrich, Fahnenjunker, Kadetten, Offizierstellvertreter, :
---no star until appointed Leutnant.
---embellishment of the Guards star or provincial order.
---Officer's cockades.
All the best.
