A couple of steins I've had for years.
I wouldn't normally buy a stein missing the lid but I couldn't let this one pass for two reasons:
It's to the 109th which is my favourite regiment but more importantly, it's the only time I've been offered a stein that was purchased by a reservist who served in the same regiment, in the same years 1900 - 1902 and in the same company as the one I had with the lid.
I have to think the odds of that happening are pretty low.
Another interesting thing is the fact that on the rosters the Grefeiters are listed first and Grefeiter Winkler is not one of them. His name shows up as a Grenadier, yet on the bottom front of the stein where the man's name is shown his rank is shown as Gefreiter Winkler.
The only explanation I can think of is that Winkler was promoted after the rosters had been compiled and incorporated onto the steins before Winkler informed the manufacturer of his change in rank.
