109th Baden Leib Grenadiers

Many thanks to Tony Schnurr for making one of my "Pickelhaube Bucket List" acquisitions come true.

Some of you may know that I've been wanting one of these helmets for years. Now, I could have bought one long ago via a dealer, but this is a hobby, and one of the "rules" that I play by is, I don't buy from dealers. No offense meant to dealers but to me the fun is in the hunt and simply contacting a dealer and writing a cheque isn't much fun.

Anyway, Tony offered this great example of an 109th OR's helmet and I jumped at the chance to pick it up. Collector to Collector. Nicely Kammer marked with an issue date of 1913. It sits next to my Bavarian Leibgarde, Saxon Leibgarde, and Wurttemburg 123rd Grenadier helmets. A quartet of Neusilber fitted helmets.

Congratulations Steve, on this spectacular acquisition! Your new helmet looks amazing next to the steins and shoulder strap! (y)

Best Wishes,

Alan

Very nice display
Steve

Thanks for the positive comments folks.

I'm thinking that with this acquisition I'm going to focus more on collecting the helmets of the Grenadier regiments.

Very nice indeed.....also on my bucket list and I would settle for just a JR 109 wappen. Congratulations!

Very nice. Do we get to see more? Or just this teaser photo! LoL
Michael:

Yes more photos later, but, I was lucky to find the time to put together that little photo shoot. We are heading to Italy on Monday for a cruise of the Adriatic and it's Spring on the lake.

Way too many things on the go at the moment, from boats and lifts, docks and marine railways, cottage road maintenance etc., etc.

When I'm back things will have slowed down a lot.

Grenadier helmets
That can be a lot of fun
Do you include the Prussian Grenadier Regts 1 -12 ?
You can do the old style " FWR " eagle front plate
then the same regiment with the "new " wide winged eagle
For years I had a Kammer issue G R 12 enlisted helmet
with the "new " eagle
then A o K turned up a Kammer issue G R 12 e m helmet
with the old style "F W R " eagle
I bought it and now have the two
I know your policy of not buying from dealers
so you are in for the hunt
networking with other collectors is not as easy
as it was years ago

Steve:

Well to start I think I'd concentrate on collecting the units that had distinctive Wappens, but yes ultimately the Prussian Grenadier regiments as well.
It's pretty unlikely I'll get to that point before they cart me off to "the home"
