Is this the 11th or not? I collect the 11th, my family members served with the regiment before it was even named the 11th in 1813, and fought in the Feldjager corps during the American Rev. They are from Marburg and it means everything to me to get my hands on items from them. Your help will be much appreciated. Best regards.

The sign says Es lebe der Kaiser u. seine Jäger, and is addressed to Köln on Rhein. I would suspect that this card has little to do with the 11th if it is from Marburg, as most letters were sent home, and Köln is a long way from Marburg.

Michael,

I do not think you can find out without seeing the shoulder straps. I thought of several things when I saw the picture. The first one was exactly what Gus said. What reinforces this is that it is a short note to his mother. I cannot read the small writing on the side however I saw nothing that indicated unit of assignment. It was sent from Sennelager which is a training area located in VII Corps. It is post mobilization 1914 which indicates to me that these guys are not front-line folks but rather reserves or replacements of some sort.

The number 11 on the building could indicate the Reservisten paragraph of the Wehrordnung as is found in many pictures. Or it could be a room or building number. On the hopeful side the unit you were looking for is in the XI corps. Those numbers are seldom found in the Arabic notation but they are found with Arabic numbers. So who knows? This is just my two cents worth.

Hey Joe and Michael,
I totally missed the 11 on the building, but I would tend to believe that it would be a building number, as it would take many buildings to house the 11th, and it would not make sense to number them all the same.

Does the number 11 on the chalkboard have any signifigance?

I guess it says: (Keep in mind I speak no german, this is just what I see)

"Elebeder Kaiser 11. seine Jager"

Andrew

Andrew, that is not an 11 on the chalk board, it is a u. the abbreviation for und (and)

Joe I think you are probably right as most of these guys arewearing bed rolls. The cokarden are Bavrian or maybe saxon by my view of the moniter. the number 11 shows up on at least 3 different regiment's as number that I know , 2 and 1 battalion.
I am still looking up 11th reserve form Selesia and have lots of 11th reseve from Bavaria , also a reference to 11 th Pioneers.
But you can not make out the boards on this one.
