Due to an incredible stroke of good fortune I was able to get a issued sword that matches my ulanka. The ulanka is waffen marked to the 2nd squardon as is the weapon. Scabbard waffen mark also matches.

Enjoy!

if you really want to enjoy the photo, right click to see the propeties, then copy that in your address bar. Then you can see the photo in all its glory in the actual size, you see it here distorted by that awful photo re-size code that I detest so much.

John, are you going to try and upgrade the epaulettes to a better pair?

Thanks for the comments Guys!!!!

I didn't really know they matched unitl I went to take the photos.

Tony,

The epaulettes are actually in great condition. I just didn't want to polish them unless I don't have to absolutely have to. They seem to tarnish really quickly as I suspect they have a very high silver content.

Thanks Bruno!

It's not depot marked. The only marking I see is a makers stamp from a maker that we have not previously seen. Very little wear on it.

Makers mark:

From the high quality of the helmet and lack of depot markings my bet is that it is a private purchase.

John, I would vote that is a standard issue Tschapka. Well, standard in the fact that it is issue, but WOW what a Tschapka!! :love10: I have owned quite a few Tschapka over the years, only one (an 1867) was unit marked. The quality of issued Tschapka is absolutely superb, much higher than say, a line Pickelhaube. Even my issued M15 Tschapka has the same quality and characteristics of your UR13 example.

I have owned two UR13 Ulanka, sold them both as I gave up on looking for the matching helmet. You are very fortunate indeed......

Tony,

You know EM better than I. I only have one other Tschapka and it's a 1915 model that has seen better days. Guess I based my assumption off of my other officer ones. Glad to know they had such great issued pieces!

Joe,

My apologies on my wording. I meant to say that until you brought it to my attention it was a maker that we had not seen before. You really do have a keen eye!

I will have to update the photo at some point. I upgraded the epaulettes to a nicer pair that has retained the silver.

John,

I'm no stranger to the consequences of light research. I see that you already own a beautiful sword for your 13th Ulahn grouping. It's beautiful. Never mind.

Hello ,

is the Fangschnur an original ?
And another funny thing did you see on your KD89 that they made a mistake in writing Garzia Hernandez ?
Please excuse my very bad english.....
