...

The sad thing that struck me today while reading about and watching videos about the slaughter of innocents in Ukraine, is that the Russian playbook has not changed since the invaision of East Prussia in 1914. Every act of babrarism commited in East Prussia is exactly as it is today!

Yes very much shades of 1945, the Russian barbarians raping and looting! The impotent Russian army unable to fight man to man with the Ukrainians makes war on women, children and the elderly!

Volodymyr Zelensky is a President worthy of the name, unlike some we could all mention. Finally, the World sees a politician who not only does his job but also tells it like it REALLY is.

I couldn't agree more my friend.
This so-called war is really a disgrace to humanity. The Russians never learned from WW2, and in fact, I even think the people there are really locked from having information on the level that we have. I have a Russian collegue at work, he truely believed the Ukrainians were national socialists, and Putin was right in invading the country. But he is married with an Ukrainian woman. About 4 weeks later, he went there, to pick his wife's family up. out of Ukraine. He now knows the full extend of these atrocities. But, knowing what he told me earlier, tells me something I don't like.
We, here, have full access to internet and other social media. In Russia it is not so.

You are right Coert, the evidence is that they deceitfully call their WAR a "Special Operation" - demonstrating that they can't even be honest with their own people, let alone the rest of the World. Sorry if my opinions are overtly political Brian, I know this Forum is not really the place for such statements but I have been enraged by what I have been seeing on the television as it unfolds. If I were forty years younger ~with two working arms and a heart that works properly~ I would have packed my rifle and gone to help. If it were in my power I would recommend President Zelensky for the Victoria Cross: particularly appropriate since they are still made from the bronze of a Russian cannon taken from Sevastapol in 1857.

You are right Coert. I work in the development of a European aircraft manufacturer and we have been collaborating with Russians for a long time. So I can confirm that it's terrifying what propaganda can do. It is also bad that some European countries are gradually introducing the same methods and switching off free media. Hopefully the EU will learn from this war and take stricter action within its own ranks against restrictions on the press and freedom of expression.

Truthfully gentlemen and lady forum members ...what we have here is the reverse of what we had in 1939. Back then, we had the Germans (Hitler) accusing the Poles/Czechs of attacking ethnic Germans within their territory. All aggressors need an excuse to attack so they don't look bad...it's a basic human psychological need., you are a bully but you have to hide it. So Hitler used this excuse to attack these countries and we got WW2. To my German friends, I know all about the stupidity of Versailles, revanche, etc...I have read it.
In this instance, we see little Putin accusing the Ukrainians of being fascists/nationalists, an excuse to satisfy the 'folks at home" and make it ok for their children to march into a special operations encounter and defeat the bad guys. Another march of the lemmings to be slaughtered! However, life has always been cheap in Russia, read Russian History.
Fortunately, for the Ukrainians and us this has not worked out for him but he is a dogged little prick and will keep on trying. I have lived on this planet for 7 decades, continually threatened by some Russian, some Soviet, some Warsaw pact asshole. So what we are seeing here, friends hopefully, is the last gasp of this Soviet era snake. Americans, and we your Allies, we need to finish this little SOB off, otherwise , he will only make further problems. Really this is what he is, the last Soviet Marxist human example of that putrid failed system of ideas spawned by another little miserable man Karl Marx. Yet another failure of a man, who lived off the fact that he had married well, a woman with a bit of money! I never tried that, I always paid in the end! :).
Truly my friends, if you want to understand the problems of the present and figure them out look to the past. The current threat besides the boring Russians, are the Chinese, if you want to understand where they are coming from, check out Chinese History. They have a few historical problems with the Europeans, the Brits and the USA and that is why they are our most dangerous enemies today.

You are absolutely right Brian. We don’t talk about the Holocaust, but the way how Hitler acted before and in 1939. Putin, like Hitler and the NSDAP, eliminated the free press, then initiated enormous propaganda brainwashing, massively upgraded the military, attacked the Ukraine on a lying pretext and then acted very inhumanely against the civilian population. We saw all this from 1933 until the first years of ww2. It is as if the autocrats were all reading the same handbook for despots. This book should be banned!

Hello everybody,
I fully agree that what Russia is doing is absolutely awful, but we seem to have forgotten that we, “the West”, invaded Irak based on a bunch of lies not that long ago, and we were the ones generating the propaganda. Just to put things a little bit in perspective.
Regards,
Lars

True, Lars the West is not without guilt and if we go back to the days of Colonialism committed many atrocities against native populations. However, today in 2022 we are supposed to be beyond spewing lies and propaganda to provide an excuse to attack a neighbour. Putin calling the Ukrainians Nazis has to be the ultimate in lies.

Also true Lars, shameful things from the relatively recent past done in our name by our politicians with their own spurious agenda shame us as well as them, but there can be no excuse for the kind of random savagery we are seeing now - it should be called out whomever perpetrates it, and whenever.
Best regards,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I fully agree, there is no excuse for what Russia is doing, period.
There are a lot of comparisons in the thread above based on countries invading other countries on a false pretext, and I wanted to put those in perspective with a reminder of our own recent past.
Regards,
Lars
