Now this one is pristine! Almost brand-new -- there is a break in the visor trim on the right-hand side but otherwise amazing condition.

A superbe piece Joe, congrats on that one. I have never seen an example before. Brian

Thanks! This one had me going too. I came late to the table as James and Randy had already left and several helmets were placed to the side and I think had been missed by the other guys. Randy and I were sure that this was in Pietsch-- nothing like being wrong again! I knew it was real and I knew it was Prussian.

I almost bought a third one but like this it was very obscure. The two I bought were pretty inexpensive and I still got the seller to come down one third. Almost everything he had was older and original but he had a couple that had been clearly doctored. Always helps to have a group look.

Despite the fact that this one is in such great condition I really like the Hanover piece better. I know it is a little bit ratty but the history of Hanover! Okay it is pretty darn ratty but does anyone else have one?

Hey Joe,
The photos of the Hanover Schako makes it look a bit rough, but in person it looks great, you could have waited for a better example, but then you could also wait for hell to freeze over, it is nice, original and it has a horsey on it.

Not wrong. There is text as well as photos.

Band 1. p.167 "die Linien-Bataillone 1, 2, 5, 6 den königl. Namenzug ohne Krone".

My good friend Stephen Case-Pall and I have discussed for years how a Model 1854 Tschako would be the culmination of a Tschako collector's life, and you (the I will never own a Tschako guy) have one.

Life is certainly very odd some times.....

You are dead on! Thanks for pointing that out. I guess if I read correctly on drawing number 26, the Bando was added in 1860. Therefore I have one that's between 1854 in 1860??? That is another indicator that this is the helmet in the Kube book.

You have only yourself to blame for turning me to the dark side! I now have four of these. So far the evil has not overtaken me. Even though this is an officer item and in pretty close to mint condition I don't like it as much as the little Hanoverian I got at the same time. I guess I just undervalued how much this thing is worth!

And if you think I went over the deep end on shakos I actually bought a medal bar

James told me about this one -- a significantly poorer shape than mine which seems to be headed to a new home in Germany.

Wow Joe, he bought that one for €35,00 you paid way too much for yours, but I would take it off your hands for what you paid for it:)
