You might have seen my last post and how I’ve been looking for an EK1 (pm me if you have any). So here is another that looks pretty nice, the 1870 on the back looks fake but there appears to be a marking under it so i don’t know if it is. Please Let me know your thoughts ASAP as it ends in 5 hrs.

Before you look into buying medals you should look at this website:

It will give you a history, dates issued, size, and weight of every medal.

I would strongly suggest you not even consider eBay if you are looking for a 1870 EK 1. They are exceptionally rare and horribly expensive. I have yet to see an original on eBay. As James suggested go to a reputable dealer and be prepared to pay the price.
 
Here are some numbers for the EK2 and EK1 from the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 provided by "stengerhistorica.com":

EK2: 40,200 awarded to Combatants
3,050 awarded to Non-Combatants

EK1: 1,230 awarded

Grand Cross to Iron Cross awarded 9 times.

You can pretty much rest assured that you are not going to get one of these for 30 British Pounds.

Thank you for the information. I’m looking for any Ek1 (besides one with a swastika [1957 is fine]), this was just one that I found while looking. Thank you again for the useful information.

I may not get one now, but definitely in the future as my budget increases. Being on the younger side I don’t have much money to spare, but when I do free up some money I will be able to buy one. Now I’m just looking for any EK1 going for cheap. I will let you know when I get one. Thank you for everything!

I am afraid that's not going to happen. Quality comes with a price.
