1871 Prussian Reserve Officer

I'm trying this as my first experiment with attaching photos.
This is my Model 1871 Prussian Reserve Officer Pickelhaube. It has been untouched except for cleaning and polishing the leather to preserve it. The guilded brass has blackened over time and the reserve cross has become completely black. The liner is the square finger type and the Kokarde is what many call the NCO Kokarde, but seems to be prevalent on officer Pickelhaubes from this period.

Welcome to the forum! The photo looks very nice indeed (as does the helmet), I'd love to see more. The patina looks nice as well.

Very nice helmet John. You are right: this type of cockade was not only prevalent but was the only one on officer helmets at that time, as seen on these two other examples:

 
Agreed. My understanding is that the single ring cockade was used by officers until 1867 or possibly 1871. Apparently it was popular enough that it continued in use by officers even after the introduction of the "twin ring" model. I have found that many of these helmets had been upgraded to twin rings and even the Reich's cockade indicating that they were upgraded as time went on. I have also seen in catalogs from the time that the model 1871 continued to be manufactured for officers and NCO's until 1899 --- maybe even later.
Anyway, my main purpose of this post was to learn how to post a photo. How do I get my photos to appear full page like yours, instead of the thumbnail that I get?

You can use a picture storage site such as Photobucket, then add the file to your post. Simple, fast and reliable.
 
Welcome John, great helmet. There is a step by step tutorial on picture posting here on the forum. Basically as Bruno said upload pics to photo bucket, copy the image code from there, start your message then hit the Img button in the forum toolbar and paste the pic into the text of your post.
