This Bavarian 1885 is one of my first Pickelhaube, which i collected approximately 30 years ago. Its a battlefield pickup by a New Zealand vet, Harry Pattle, who served in the later part of 1918. I was attracted to its unclean and original condition, the inside is still coated with dried mud. It seems that the spike may have been removed to allow fitting into a kit bag, it certainly appears to be original to this helmet. The chinstrap is made of very thin leather, and is riveted, not sewn. As it came without Kokarden i fitted copies. Still looking for originals. Inside was a hand written note with the soldiers details. This allowed me to obtain copies of his military service from government achieves. As he was in the 49th Reinforcements April 1918, i assume he picked it up as a take home souvenir.
