1907 Baden NCO Pickelhaube with cover

This is the second helmet I got from the local lady.

I figure it is from Baden issued to a NCO of a supply train. Helmet has 1907 on the inside of the back flange so I figure that is the date it was made.

IF anyone has the other half of the chin strap available and maybe the other grommet I would be very interested. I would enjoy this helmet much more with a complete chin strap.

Any confirmation or additional info would be great.

The cloth cover seems to be wool with a few small holes. Many stamps on the inside but they are hard to read. Poor light today combined with poor eyesight means I can only read either J9 or 59 on the cover. I suspect 59 is the size.

No rhyme or reason, just the helmets I ran across and had a chance to buy. Hope to find more soon!

Yeah, the cover is cool to have but I don't display it as I think the helmet shows better without.
(actually my greatgrandfathers brother in law, the other guy in the picture, wore a cover) =P~

Well James, that is a very valuable helmet that you have there, we don't see many of those. Notice that it has the proper curved chin scales for "mounted troops". It is missing one half on the chin scales?? There are collectors here that may have the scales to complete this. It is an Ordinary Ranks Helmet (OR's) helmet. There was only one Baden Train Battalion prior to WW1 and that was TB 14 formed in 1864 and based at Durlach. Please check out the markings on the rear visor for something like TB or TR 14. So, only one train battalion from Baden and a helmet in great condition with markings and brass chin scales, plus the original uberzug (helmet cover). You had better take good care of that one my friend, because it is worth a good bit of cash... not $2K but more than $1K if it was complete. I hope you have your helmets on some sort of supports so they are not resting on their visors, that puts pressure on the stitching and loosens everything up. Train guys, were the supply troops for the front line infantry, they drove wagons and trucks to bring up everything that was needed to keep the war going. Congratulations on a great helmet !
 
Identified the exact unit WOW! Better than I could have ever hoped!

If somebody does have the missing chin strap for sale I will purchase for sure.


I picked up an old hat form for this one to take the pressure off the brims, the loberstail I have support itself.
