2. kurhessisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 82

Hallo from Germany!

Currently I'm researching the history of the regiment of my home town Göttingen (until 1866 Kingdom of Hannover, from 1866 part of Prussia).

My main focus is on the time between 1871 - 1919. I'm intending to write down the history of the regiment and its relations to the city and the citizens of Göttingen.

The informations of the military history - especially of WWI - are pretty complete. The Informations about the regiment and the city need some more time.

And now my request: I'm looking for any kind of pictures of the 2. kurhessisches IR 82, no matter if pictures of single soldiers or groups, of uniforms, helmets or whatever. I'm happy about everything I could use (if I'm allowed to!) to visualize my work. Tony already helped me a lot (thanks for that).

Hoping for answers...

Marco

Just the one from me Marco, and I'm afraid it's not a very good one. Nothing on the reverse of the photo either.

But an interesting one. When I saw it first I thought it might be taken someone in Germany, maybe even in Göttingen. But there seem to be a Landsturm soldier on the photo, too, I guess. So it must be somewhere at the eastern front?!

On the other side I wonder about the civilian.....

So where is this building?

Göttingen, Germany!

Formerly standing free beyond the gates of the city, it's now surrounded by buildings of the city council and almost part of the city center:

(Late 80s, today the trees hide the building much more)

Can't beat those "then and now" pictures. Great stuff.

Fortunately, Göttingen has hardly been bombed during WW II (other cities close to us like Kassel, Hannover and Braunschweig have been totally destroyed) and that's why I have good chances to get a nice motive as soon as I find any pictures of that time. Like this:

That bakery and cake shop "Cron & Lanz" on the right still exists.

But I guess I have to wait until autuum to get a shot of the whole street (without the tree and the tents)...

I think you're onto something here. Maybe a Then & Now thread?

That's actually not what I wanted to start and I think I'd have an unfair advantage. :)

I's just so hard to keep things like these to myself... :D

Do not keep them to yourself! I have actually marked on my list to start looking for 82 pictures. I am sure I have some I just have to find them. This is been very interesting.

Got something here. Can anyone tell me something about the ranks of these officers? I always have some problems with that...

Marco,

None of them are officers.

Left, Unteroffizier wearing an M1910 Feldrock. See the Unteroffizier braid on the collar and cuffs, but no NCO button on the collar that a Sgt would have.

Fellow seated, same rank wearing a Vereinfachte M10 Feldrock.

Right, an Unteroffizier mit Portepee (NCO with the Officer's sword knot) wearing what seems to be a tailored (Eigetumsstück) M1910 Feldrock. His rank would be Vizefeldwebel as he does not have the second row of braid on the cuff that a Feldwebel would wear.

Sorry,Nothing at all on the back. However it does look to me like Karel has a better maintained garden.
