I am super happy to share my latest two Bavarian calvary helmets. I have been searching for these two for many years!

On the left is the very hard to find M15 Field Gray and on the right is a Silver Pre-war OR Chevauleger helmet.

First the M15, is in awesome shape and has super nice removable fluted spike with pearl ring. Helmet is dated 1916 and size 55. Completly original kokarden and chinstrap. I am still jumping up and down about getting this one!

No. 2 is a extremely cool well marked Silver trim OR Chevauleger helmet.

Well marked 6.Chev.R on back inside visor.

A little wear on outside back visor keeps this one from being in top condition.

Have the Kokarden, just have the long job of finding Silver M95 calvery scales to complete it. If anybody has any, I have many other scales to trade etc.

Hope you enjoy my 2 latest helmets!

James

James,

Can you measure the width of the two wappen? Visually they look to be the same size and neither of them have any Vine leaves. It took us a long time to find the first example of an M15 like that. So you lucked out on this one! Nice finds.

He he, James is away from home, I think I will stop by to see my new helmet.

Joe- both plates are the same in size.

6 inches wide at the widest point,a nd 4 1/2 inches tall

thanks

James

6 inches ---- guys who do not speak American English will never get this.... you do mean 145 mm don't you???

Two excellent pieces James, congratulations! Hard to find these in such excellent condition today. Brian

This was covered very good in this thread, including measurements by Tony & kaiser

Welcome Helmlick!

Good point, and I remember that and that thread ended with:
So how many standard sizes were there? Where did Seibold get his 11 x 16 measurement? Where did Orrick get his M15 vine from?

I have heard stories of vines from other sources besides the old Kaiserzeit magazine. And why oh why did they not put the measurements in the Bavarian book? I mean, they even put cockade measurements..... everything but that wappen.... :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Hi James,

I don't chime in very often, but I got kind of excited seeing this post. I have a helmet identical to your silver-fitted Helmet Number Two that is missing a number of parts; specifically, the wappen, removable screw off spike, M-91 side posts, and the chin strap.

It's nicely marked to the 2nd Squadron, 4th Chevauleger Regiment and it still has the silver cruciform base, rear spine, and front trim. Tony Schnurr warned me not to buy it due to the impossibility of finding original parts, but the price was right and I did. As I told him, it will end up being a lifetime labor of love putting it back together. So the search has been on for a set of those weird, three prong Bavarian posts in silver.

Your pictures kind of look like the M-91 side posts are possibly brass. I'm hoping that they are, because that would make my search a lot easier. So the big question for me is; are the M-91 side posts in helmet number two brass or silver metal? Thank you very much for your reply in advance.

Semper Fi,

Bryan.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

Bryan- I wish I had better news for you on the side posts, but what you are seeing is the brass base metal showing through in spots. Still a lot of the silver showing on one, and about 50% on the other.

thanks

James

Thanks James.

As Fate would have it, a pair of silver colored ones just showed up on Ebay with a bunch of other parts! The search continues...

Semper Fi,

Bryan.
