Hello folks,

Here's a nice emsemble I came across at the Askeri Müze in Istanbul. It is the uniform of the 3. Garde Ulanen Regt with Tschapka...

I know what you're thinking, shame they've lost the "Feldzeichen" oval cockade. But no, it's turned up as a nice collar button...

...and the caption showing the owner was one, Ekrem Akomer. Anyone know anything more about him?

Enjoy!

Fellow member Khukri has kindly mailed me to point out a problem with the uniform. I hadn't noticed but of course the 3GUR had a white metal Gurads Eagle not yellow metal as here. Can anyone explain the use of a yellow metal one here?

Also found some more information on owner here- http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=176013

It seems he was aide to Liman von Saunders, and also that he served in the 2.Brandenburgisches Ulanen Regiment Nr.11.

Cheers
Chris

Gentlemen:
My mail to chrispaulodale: so: nothing wrong with my eyes 8-)

quote:
I have to mail you that your posting has errors:

3.GUR has a yellow Paraderabatte (not a white one).

The piece in the Ulanka colar is not a Kokarde (Cocade) but the "Feldzeichen" or "National". (Prussian colours: White with black centre).

1. and 3. GUR have the white metal/Siver Eagle Wappen with Silver Guard Star.
2.GUR has the guilded/yellow Eagle with silver Guard Star (Garde Stern)

The Kokarde (Reichskokarde Black-White-Red) is located at the right sidepost of the chinscale.

Paraderabatte:
1.GUR: White
2.GUR: Red
3.GUR: Yellow

Francis is correct. As Joe writes, the yellow colour on the eagle may just be heavy grime, but the Rabatte looks definitively white...
Here is a 3GUR Tschapka:
