500th post - A few portraits to celebrate

A small milestone for yours truly. Three years ago I didn't know a pickelhaube from a pickled egg, thanks largely to this forum, I can now hold my own when it comes to haggling with a gnarly French postcard seller over the price of a portrait of a Landsturmmann with a crazy Überzug.

Special thanks to Joe, George, Tony, and Gus - all of whom I have pestered with inane questions at one time or another, and all of whom have been extremely generous with their time and patience. =D>

Some pics for your enjoyment ...

I think the ID of the Hessian "dragoons" is off. Dragoons should have standing collars and the straps look wrong. My guess is that they are mounted personnel from the Hessian FAR 25. Could you zoom in on the shoulder board of the guy on the left? It looks like there is something underneath the cypher, which I am thinking is a bursting shell insignia.

Spot on Chip. It is a small Granate mit einer Flamme. The link directly underneath the photo will take you to a large 2080 x 3130 picture where the straps of both fellows can be examined in better detail.

I made a comparison with the example of the cypher on page 240 of the Verzeichnis und Uniformabzichen section of Führer durch Heer und Flotte and confess I'm struggling to see the same one as on the shoulder of the two artillerymen. Perhaps it's just the angle? Probably a silly question, but have you got an example in your collection?

He's vanished again. No doubt the bastage has a Feldgrau FAR25. GAWD I hate that man! :cussing:

I am privileged to have Chip as a friend. Anyhoo, all I have is a plain old FAR25 pre-war. Will that do? Congrats Brett on your 500th, that was a TON of working putting that very enjoyable posting together. I can appreciate the effort. Thank you. (P.S. You have learned a lot about cannons too...)

Spot - on! That's exactly what I was after mate. Your "plain old FAR25" serves as a much better comparison than the small line drawing variant I was looking at =D> I'm really hoping someone publishes a complete set one day so I can stop pestering you guys [-o< . Maybe they already have, in piecemeal ...

On the subject of cannons, I re-emailed Hannes and got a response today. Stand-by your email for a call.

Thanks again Tony.

Good news Tony.....you don't have to hate me! I don't have a M1907 from this regiment! :-"
