55JR IIIB 1896 Schaumburg 1914 Detmodt

Thank you, my friends, for your kindness. I did this to myself at the first minute of the judo season. I'm totally immobilised for 6 weeks. At 70, you don't operate any more. The achilles tendon is completely severed, but I'm lucky enough to have an ‘anomaly’ that is not yet found in ‘modern’ populations (but in ‘primitive’ populations...). I have a second small tendon, parallel to the ruptured one. This holds the 2 ends of the injury together and prevents my calf from floating.
I can't wait to be able to walk and run again... but I know I'll have to be patient and that it's going to be a long... very long time.

Fortunately I've got the forums to keep me busy, and my collection to contemplate.

I echo a speedy recovery. Nice to see us older folk being so active. (Okay I am only 62 but keeping active is the key to longevity).

Cheers.

Peter

Thierry that is an extraordinary bit of luck - glad to hear it! I hope your recover is as speedy and painless as it possibly can be. Like Peter, I am 62 and try to stay as active as possible...but occasionally the universe reminds me that I am not 26 the way my brain thinks I am.

Beautiful alpine vista in your "before" photo. Where is that?

Unfortunately, as one ages, physical things start to happen. I wish you a full recovery Thierry. !

C'est si agréable de voir une photo de toi Thierry.

Je pensais que tu serais plus grand.

It's just an impression, I'm sitting down! 😁 In fact for a Frenchman of my time I was of average height, 1m73, 70kg Selected as a parachutist in the army (conscription military service),I ended up being coated in the Gendarmerie ‘mountain rescue’. And for the last 50 years, I've been in the mountains at least 10 days a year.

To answer Jeff R, it's in the Ecrins massif in France. I like it a lot, because we have peaks between 3000 and 4000m, but above all, as we're 200 kms as the crow flies from the Mediterranean, we very often have sunshine!

Hello Thierry

Is-it possible to have specific views of the Schaumburg Cocade ?
Hello François,
Detmolt and Schaumburg are strictly the same matrix. The former is made of brass, while the latter is made of black steel painted in the same colours. t The rear of the Schaumburg leaves a smudge of blue in the centre and white under the points, as is often the case with Reichskokarde, for example.

When superimposed on the side post, hey are virtually invisible.

It's really hard to admit to ourselves that we are not the youngsters we used to be. As an ex Paratrooper every time I watch the jump scene in A Bridge Too Far I wish I could go do another military jump with full kit.

Thanks Clovis for your cocades, here are mine

On the top, a former fireman helmet cocade form Schaumburg, that some people used to consider as possible on a troop helmet (I am not of this mind) and and down an original M95 troop Schaumburg cocade, which is smaller

Thank you François for sharing.I note that our markings are almost identical. 👍
The one you think is fireman's may be, but fireman's cockade generally have a small central hole for the rivet-button. Side posts were very rare on firemen's helmets. The central hole could have been enlarged to 19mm, but in that case the spokes would not be closed towards the centre, but cut cleanly, and there would be no small collar (raised edge in the centre).
With firefighters, the spokes in the centre, between the central hole and the circle, are slightly raised. But some M67, M87 and M91 roundels also had this detail.
