Friday Jan 20 we had a small group together for some IG military show and tell.
Myself and 2 PH.com members ; Mike Kelso came from Ala. and Mike H.
and 1 new local member
we did some buy ; sell and trade
I was able to pick up the following straps for my collection .
Since I will not be able to go to the S O S this year
these will be my S O S purchases .
A little know fact about artillery straps as they are know cover by Laine
The 5th batterie of FAR 10 was Braunschweig and they had their own
different shoulder straps
These are not often seen
All of the straps are shown in Mike Kelso's book " Under Arms for the Kaiser "
The black Polrock strap was worn from 1867 to 1886 ; see page 570 Mike's book ; text on page 371
The red strap with the " W " cypher and crown was worn after 1886 Page 371
I already had the red strap with the " W " cypher and crown and the flaming bombshown on page 570 Mike's book
The bomb was added in 1899
2 of the straps have the tags on the back that shown that they came from the
collection of the late Christian Zentner
His collection was sold over several auctions by Stauffer
The other strap has a tag that shows it came from an old blanket of straps
The other strap that I got is a rare Hessian Schloss Garde strap also shown in Mike's book page 121
Maybe some of the Braunschweig collectors like Zeb or Tony S have seen these straps
