80 Photo's Relics German Positions Buchenkopf / Tête de Faux

Yesterday I doubled the content of the already existing photo page about the Tête de Faux in the Vosges with 80 photo’s of the German positions on the east slope of the Buchenkopf.

After the existing report of our visit of 2007 to the former French positions on the south west side of the Tête de Faux, you will find on the same page new photo’s of another visit in 2008 to the relics of the German positions.

On a foggy day in the first week of June 2008 we approached the mountain this time from the village of le Bonhomme to visit the eastern slopes of the Buchenkopf.

Especially for the bunker aficionado’s under my friends: in this photo report you will find a Tolkien-like landscape with not only 2 German wartime cemeteries, but also some interesting bunkers amongst 2 Bavarian made dressing stations, and other relics.

Click on Tête de Faux – Buchenkopf , scroll down,
and have a nice and peaceful weekend!

Very nice, Pierre. The countryside looks so beautiful it's almost impossible to imagine the death and destruction that occured there!

@ Liongules. Thank you, Mike. Strangely as it may sound: almost all former battlefields along the Western Front possess a beautiful landscape. Many times the passer-by, who is not familiar with it's history, will not notice any traces of these times past.
The landscapes look nowadays very peaceful. That is why, I always call these beautiful landscapes with a violent past for my self: "guilty landscapes".

I made a huge extension with 85 photo's of our 4th and last visit to the Tête de Faux of June 2009. With adding some new period pictures the photo page reached a total of 195 pictures.

This time in June 2009 we did at last reach the summit of the mountain (1.208 m.). The new photos are pictures of the relics of the French trenches, and a sober memorial for some fallen Chasseurs Alpins near the summit.
On the German side we did some remarkable explorations. We located the third cable car station, the German position at the Roche du Corbeau, the bunkers, belonging to the chain of bunkers of "Feste Eisenschmid", and of course the still impressive trenches and bunkers at the summit of the "Stützpunkt Buchenkopf".
For my more regular visitors, who are already familiar with the photo page about the Tête de Faux, this all means you have to scroll a lot to the end of the part of the French side. You also have to scroll a lot to the end of the photo page for the new 2009 "German side" photos. On the other hand, a revisit to the old pictures may complete your image of our virtual tour over the Tête de Faux. Click HERE .

Thanks in advance for visiting my website again,

Pierre
