A entire dream collection in one photo.

A super photograph indeed. The principal actors on the front row raise a couple of interesting points:

Zahlmeister Knolle: Ludwig Knolle (5 August 1866-) is still uniformed as a Zahlmeisteraspirant; he was not appointed to the rank of Zahlmeister until 17 April 1905. He was for many years the Zahlmeister of the officers' riding school in Paderborn and still serving as a Stabszahlmeister/Oberinspektor in the military administration in Hannover until at least 1930.

Rossarzt Schulz: Ernst Schulze is still titled as a Roßarzt in error. The rank was restyled as Oberveterinär per AKO of 27 August 1903. Herr Schulze went onto to be the regimental veterinary surgeon of the 4. Garde-Feldartillerie-Regiment in Potsdam, battalion veterinary surgeon of Train-Bataillon Nr. 10 in Hannover and the chief instructor at the military instructional smithy in Hannover and rising to the rank of Oberstabsveterinär.

Major Digeon von Monteton: Wilhelm Baron Digeon von Monteton (1853-1931) shown in the uniform of Kürassier-Regiment Nr. 8. Baron Monteton rose to the command of Ulanen-Regiment Nr. 3, the Kavallerie-Reit-Schule and finally in peacetime the 38. Kavallerie-Brigade in 1910. He was promoted to Generalmajor on 19 July 1911 and retired on 22 April 1912. He returned to service in WW1, successively commanding Landwehr-Infanterie-Regiment 10, Kavallerie-Schützen-Regiment 11 and Etappen-Kommandantur (Lines of communication) Nr. 67 in Poltawa, Ukraine.

Rittmeister Johanßen: Otto Johanßen shown in the uniform of Husaren-Regiment Nr. 16. At the outbreak of war, he was the second-in-command of Jäger-Regiment zu Pferde Nr. 5. He rose to the rank of Oberst (15 July 1918) and commanded RIR 204.

Wachtmeister Wolschke: Fritz Wolschke is still listed as a Wachtmeister in the 1910 Hannover address book. A retired police senior inspector of that name is still listed in Hannover in 1935 and I would suspect that is the same chap.

Glenn
