A 'General' Question.

All of the Saxon General's helmets I've seen have had a semi-rounded visor (on which the front along the bottom has no curve, but the sides aren't squared, but 'sweep' upward in a very nice curve). This one has a square visor. Was this a later type or maybe Dragoon? I've never seen this before. Thanks, guys and gals!

Is this of any help?

Ron,

the Saxon Dress regulations for 1904 certainly prescribe a "square" front peak.

Excellent Glenn! Thank you! Yes, that's very helpful. Anybody have any idea of when this went into affect? All I've seen to this point were similar to this one:

So, new to me, but great to know! :)

Thanks again.

See if this works:

This is what I meant by 'rounded' and is the only type I'd seen before the one on Weitz. :)
I hope "Newbe" doesn't mind my hijacking his photos, but they're just PERFECT!

Ron,

the square front peak and plate with the enameled star were introduced per order dated 9 October 1893. Prior to this, Saxon General officers had worn a standard Saxon infantry pattern Pickelhaube with a rounded front peak (albeit with a General Officers' gold fittings, silver star and fluted spike).

This is the Weitz helmet.. I hope they don't mind a little free advertisement. Don't have the Euros though. :( :

So, Glenn, helmets with the rounded visor and enameling were probably updated, am I reading that right? Either way, it certainly is beautiful! :)
