a new Garde ulan tschapka at home

Hi friends,

Following the idea of Bruno, Flasheart and some others of this net meeting, I have sold my tin ersatz tschapka. With a part of the money I get I bought this new tschapka for my personnal collection.

It's a model 1867 for an enlisted man in the 3thd Ulanen Regt with an old yellow parade rabatte. The wappen seems to be in brass but it's because it has not been cleaned for a long time. I found no mark except a sheet of paper inside, probably the maker's patch.

Let's share my pleasure together!

Congratulations!! Especially if you could get it for "a fraction of the price of the tin Tschapka"... at least one person made a great deal!..
Bruno

This is a private purchase Maxime, yes? Tony (in LA on Geschäftsreise)

Hi friends,

Thanks for your congratulations! I'm not sure that it's a personnal purschase because it doesn't have a silk liner like the officiers one and the wappen is an elisted man's model. Otherwise, it's a personnal purschase for me because it fits perfectly to my head (size 59!).

Don't worry Bruno, the twoo parts are happy for the deal and the tin tschapka's selling didn't pay the half part of this new one. I'll update my little web site with new pictures in a few times.

Thanks a lot friends!

Bonjour Maxime. The hook on top would indicate private purchase. The private purchase and issued Tschapka liners all used the "squared finger" liners until 1880 when the internal sweatband and skull-cap came into use for officers, and I suppose alos as an option for Private purchase, although men seemed to keep using the squared finger option long after 1880. Your very nice example appears to be a M1867, yes? Are there the two holes in the side of the neck under the Rabatte which were introduced in 1889? http://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/tschapka.htm Now you need a nice early Ulanka! Again, félicitations! Tony (temporarily in LA)

Hi Tony,

Many thanks again for your perfect explanations. Yes it's a model 1867 because there are no holes on the basis of the top "mortar board". I didn't know that the private purschase models did have a steel hook and a leather liner until 1880. It could explain the form of the maker's mark that is like a publicity and the high quality of the leather body of the helmet.
Sorry Tony for the Ulanka, but no place enough at home and especially for the horse!

Maxime

Max,
Go ahead and get the Ulanka, you do not need a horse until you get the saddle.
Gus
ps Great stuf, I think Otto and I will come to your house with the truck, do not feel bad if you have to miss this adventure.

Nice, Nice, niiiice Tschapka 3.GUR Mannschaften M1867 !!!

Mine is looking for the missing yellow paraderabbatte.
But I'm affraid the old girl will stay "topless".
It has to fit as all Tschapki are different.
I saw one on a site: ....500 €

Hi Mike and all,

Bonnes fêtes à toi également!

Unfortunately this helmet is no longer in my collection, it's now for sale at Weitze's shop and for an affordable price.
