a new website

Hi guys, getting a bit frustrated by having my collection in boxes for years now, that's the inconvenient of the military life and of the subsequent frequent moves, I've decided to take good pics of the items and to enjoy them on my computer anywhere in the world... As I started that huge work, I have around 800-900 items and I'm not an expert in photography, It came to me that it was also a great opportunity to share this pleasure and to exchange information, on a "worldwide basis"... I want also to provide a usefull tool for the beginners who have some difficulty to identify a spiked helmet. I'm therefore feeding a small and modest website with the pics I take every week-end. I plan a 6 month period for getting to an acceptable level of quality. Please feel free to give a look and to give me your impressions : I need encouragement, since it's a heavy load on my off duty time, and some guidance of course since that's my first experience in this field so far. On top of that, I'm French and better at cooking potatoe fries than drafting rather technical items in English :-(
I hope anyway to benefit from the excellent ambiance and friendship I found on this website to improve my project.... Enjoy your visit !

It looks like it will be very good, but I suspect that you can not cook potatoes better than you can compose in English, as you English is better than most natural speakers
Best wishes
Gus

Hi Gus, thanks for the compliment but the praise has to go to Chip Mix who is in the process of kindly transforming my "Frenglish" into proper English, I take this opportunity to thank him again. Kind regards from France / (in fact I live now in Croatia) Steve (Stephane)

Hey Stephane, I like your new web site very much especially the identify your helmet feature. You have some excellent helmets and I look forward to seeing more of your collection so please keep taking pictures and get those items out of their boxes!! All the best, Brian

Hi Brian, thanks for your encouragements, I keep taking pics ... but tonight I was on MG stuff, I did almost all the spiked helmets, but in the future I will add at once the pics of the in-coming helmets ... if there are good founds :-) ... these days, helmets are getting very very expensive ! and hard to find, especially that I get to the rarest as all the fellow collectors, we re getting "old" (47)!
I also plan an "archeology" category, I have a good friend in Champagne and another good fellow collectos who could provide pics of excellent dug out front plates for instance .... But that will come later ! keep looking from times to times, I will inform the forum when I "feed" a new category (soon telephone, saddle accessories, Maxim MG stuff etc)
The only personn who does not like my website is ....... ? My wife :-( .... not for the design but for the time it takes me ! ah ah ah :-)

Hi Stephane...you are correct the more helmets you have then it gets very expensive to buy those ones that are missing. Those naturally are the very rare ones. I hope that you have checked out Tony Schnurrs' web site..The kaisers Bunker. http://www.kaisersbunker.com/ Tony has the best collection in Canada that I know of. Collectors always need understanding wives but at least they know where we are (looking at our collections) and it is not like we are gambling or drinking the money away. Why Croatia?? B

Stephane, absolutley amazing collection!!! I'm adding it to my favourites list now for full examination later, it looks like I'll need a good few hours to go through that lot. Thanks for sharing it with the world...

Cheers
Chris

Hey Stephane,
I am a little slow, I only now realized who you are, I met you at SOS last year with Laurent, I had the table with the Poilu on it, I am looking forward to more being added to your web site (and a map so I can come with the truck)
Best wishes
Gus

Hi Gus, don't come with a truck, take the aircraft carrier ! No, joking, a couple of boxes, but when you take pics it looks like your have a truck full of item, photography is magic, it makes even the items nicer than in reality ! Sorry to keep away from the SoS this year but we are on winter holidays with the kids, please tell those who organize this magnificent show that they must avoid the French february holidays period :-), ... enjoy your 2010 SOS, lucky you ! all the best from Europe,Steve

Hey Steve,
I have tried to advise the SOS show organizers in the past, but they do not listen to me, I thought it would be better for them to pick a more centralized location, such as Salt Lake City, Utah, but they still have it in the remote eastern part of the United States.
Sorry to miss you this year, have a great vacation
Best wishes
Gus

Hey Stephane...checked out your helmet plate collection on the site ...WOW! Dont suppose you have a spare Ordinary ranks wappen for a JR 93 helmet lying around in one of your boxes do you? I have a nicely marked ORs M95 helmet to this regiment and need the proper plate. Anyone else out there...help! Brian

Hi Brian, unfortunately I don't have a spare JR93 Anhalt plate, I had to undo the plate from the helmet to take the pics, but it's good to know since I can cross one, if I hear about that I'll keep you informed, it's a matter of patience .... Did you like the front plate category ? should I display the back of the plates as well ? I miss some officer especially enameled plate to better explain the difference officer/enlisted man....
