Truly a unique photo! At first look it reminds me of an Egyptian pharaoh's name seen on the wall of a tomb. Very cool!

The same cypher is on the shoulder straps and epaulettes
of that regiment . My collector friend Mike Kelso has a cased set of epaulettes
given by the Kaiser's wife to the Commander of that regiment .
Maybe Mike will post a photo of the pair

So that shape surrounding the crown and cypher is to represent an epaulette.....that explains things.
