Well, here's their Saxon relative... Here's my M95 Saxon OR pickelhaube, made of fiber board.
It's produced the same way as the other two, it has the same type of visors and the same flimsy style of liner and chinstrap. You can also notice that the green color of the kokarde has faded so much that it almost looks as light blue...
Nevertheless, I'm very excited with this rare ersatz haube...

There are so many nice to say about this helmet however, I really want to concentrate on the cockade. That is an amazing fading of the color. What I find most interesting is the shade of blue. It seems very similar to the different colored Braunschweig cockades that you see. Fading from dark blue to light blue is one possible explanation for those. I wonder if his green light blue is related? Similar paints? :-k
 
I'll take a look at the helmet when I get home.. I'm sure it's stunning! Anyway, pigments.... I don't know if they'd have used natural pigments (such as copper oxide for green) or industrial / synthetic pigments on those. Here's a good article with a nice general overview of pigments: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pigment" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm sure there are better sources, but that was just a quick look-up. One thing is for certain, in many cases, a manufactured pigment is much less expensive than a natural ones... red iron being an exception along with others.

Lead oxides:
Chrome green: the mix of chrome blue (prussian blue) and chrome yellow.
Degradation causes the blue-green color.

=D> I'm sorry, I was thinking ceramic glaze chemicals etc. at the moment, (copper oxide). You are correct! :)

Yes I do! But if you ever decide you don't like it, you know who to contact. However, I suspect you're like me… once you purchase a helmet, you keep it in the collection because you never get tired of it! :)
