A rare Tschako

Here's for your review a rare M71/99 Tschako for Luftschiffer and Telegraphen Batt. It's in fact a high end private purchase model for enlisted men and NCO, used for parades, going out and official occasions.
As you can see it's entirely made in officer's quality, only it has a high quality leather chinstrap instead of metal, enlisted men's kokarde and feldzeichen. On the other hand the crown of the eagle is voided (hard to see in the pics) as is standard for an officer's model.
The officer's models are standard covered with a fine black wool, while this Tschako has leather on the outside.
This proves again that private purchased items sometimes were composed with a mix of parts, depending on the ammount of money the owner wanted to spend.
Please enjoy the pictures...

In your collection I would think this is rather common, only rare to be found in someone else's collection, is this one that came from the garden?

Very nice! I can identify with these guys. I always wanted my uniforms and headgear to be above the average and didn't mind spending more to have them look a bit better: Officer "Staff" style buttons, rather than the enlisted type, privately owned helmets, etc. (the nice thing is you get to keep your helmets then!).

Another outstanding masterpiece from your collection =D> Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your comments guys!

Gus, this one doesn't come from the garden... I had to drive all the way to Germany for it. Oh, whell... it was worth the 1200 km trip ...

Karel.

you not only have great stuff but like so many people you share it! I learn from you all the time. I am truly grateful. :director:

"He who hesitates is lost" The collector who hesitates has an excellent chance of losing the prize. You only have to experience this lesson once when you end up crying in your beer having gone back for something only to find that it was sold minutes after you left it. This is especially true in "Show" situations where guys like James, Joe and Gus are cruising about the tables!! I would have scooped that shako in a New York minute even if it cost me a speeding ticket.

Thank you gentlemen! Your comments are really appreciated!
Joe, isn't chairing knowledge what a forum is about?
Brian, I know that feeling... and have already experienced the "just one second to late" moment too. I guess we can't have it all :-k ...

Nice Tschako ,very rare. :thumb up:

Someone who claims to know everything about imperial headgear is delusional, so I’m also learning from nice gentlemen like Karel who share their wonderful collection on this forum, wherefore many thanks. =D>
