I just got in a single epaulette for a reserve officer with the rank of Major for Wurttemberg I R 125
It is a massive size with very large Reich's crown and cypher.
The photo of it with a pair that I have from the same regiment
to show the size difference
Do any of our members know the date / year when the epaulettes
changed from the early larger ones to the smaller size ?
Kube had always called the smaller epaulettes
the more elegant ones
the cypher and Reich's crown are massive on that one
Another interesting thing about it is that it is a reserve officer
The cypher was awarded 20 March 1888. for Kaiser Friedrich III. according to Mike Kelso's book
I think the "FR " is for the Kaiser's father
also maybe the first time the Reich's crown was used with an Infantry cypher ?
an interesting study
Feedback please
I wonder if the size of the epaulettes change
had to do with the time of the change of the shoulder straps for officers ?
from huge to smaller ?
Here are my I R 125 epaulettes together to see the size difference
also the different size of the cyphers
and there is even a difference in the design of the Reich's crown
Interesting to me is the amount of different cyphers and crowns
plus the different sizes of each that the firm that fabricated the officers epaulettes
