A Visit Down to Kaiser's Bunker

Over the Summer, I had the great pleasure in getting to visit a friend who owns a world-class Imperial German collection. This extensive collection has obviously required a great deal of time and effort to assemble. The collection is none other than Kaiser's Bunker.

To paint a picture, when one enters Kaiser's Bunker, your eyes are immediately drawn in every direction. To me, I almost felt like a chameleon, the way my eyes were darting around. You are greeted by an array of Imperial uniforms and headgear, all in amazing condition! Throughout the visit, I had the great fortune of being able to check out many Imperial German helmets and uniforms the likes of which many museums could only dream of owning. For that, Tony, I am truly grateful!

A little about the pictures...

Posed is myself, coupled with an amazing piece out of Tony's collection. Pictured is an 1843 Landwehr NCO Kürassier helmet. A truly remarkable piece! Of particular interest, are the 'feather bolts' discreetly securing the Adler in place as well as the large 40mm landwehr cross; the largest I've ever seen. I find myself constantly learning new things from Tony.

The reason I create this post is not only to showcase an amazing collection, but also hopefully my experience resonates with some of the older collectors out there who remember what it was like initially entering the world of Imperial German collecting.

I am only just entering the Imperial German world of collecting after primarily focusing on Canadian First World War helmets amongst other interesting curios I find. To be able to bear witness to such a collection, it helps to feed an insatiable appetite to learn more on the subject!

Although this post is short, my visit was anything but. There is plenty to discuss about such an amazing collection, but for that, I will let the pictures do the speaking.

P.S. I tried to smile in case some of you end up starring at the photos for a while. I know I did!
