I know! Re-photograph all the Feldgrau Schirmmützen and Krätchen. :sunny:

91 new photographs and scans of period photographs for your viewing pleasure. All of the photos are dramatically different on quality and color, and most are almost double in size.

Here is the Feldgrau headgear index >> http://www.kaisersbunker.com/feldgrau/headgear/

Andrew,
There are many great collections among the members who post here, many have been collecting for decades. Prices have been climbing very quickly in the past few years, and it is very important to have the knowledge first, as there are many fake and doctored items out on the market. A lot of the fakes started life as reproductions for re enactors, some were made to be sold as the real thing. Oddly enough, for a few years, the reproductions were priced higher than the original items, due to the cost of making them, most original items were a small size (people were smaller 90 years ago, the uniforms were made for children, and often the items that survived were the ones that were too small to use) so re enactors had to pay a higher price to have a helmet or uniform that would fit. Do not get discouraged by the size of other's collections, remember that they all atarted with one item and built on that. Try to pick a theme, this helps with collecting on a limited budget, the time when a person could collect everything is past, but do not pass up a bargin that falls out side of your theme, as you can use it to trade, so it is important to learn everything you can to help build a good collection.
Best wishes
Gus

Great advice Gus. My first helmet was a ratty M15 Prussian with red rot liner. Today I would never purchase such a helmet...now that I know what I know. However, the ratty Prussian was a good place to start and it got me intersted in this whole Imperial German thing and look where I have ended up...having to put up with all of you guys at the Louisville Show, you packing pistoles, Mosher hugging me...pushing Joe into a large truck, pretending to like red wine at Tony's, visits from Chas AKA Andre the Giant, making friends in Texas of all places, drinking with some guy who calls himself King Weasel, spending hours literally bleeding over restored spiked hats which are not mine and talking to two guys from Minnesota who like to fire MGs in their spare time...etc etc. What is life without the passion of collecting militaria and spiked helmets???? Last but not least, welcome Andrew you have come to the right place to hang out and learn. Brian
