Adler's Collection

Thank you for sharing your very impressive collection! You have some beautiful and unusual pieces. Displaying our treaures is always a challenge, but so important to truely be able to enjoy our finds. What good is it to have these gems and not be able to look at and appreciate them. I feel that a helmet is like a fine painting. It should be displayed, studied and appreciated.
Thank you again for posting your photos.
Beautiful!

Jim put it very well. First, beautiful collection! Second, these are indeed works of art (being a Master of Fine Art I've seen a LOT of art around the world and I still get the greatest thrill from these and other fine helmets... as well as armors!).

Thanks so much for sharing with us.

:D Ron

These comments touch upon the life of the collector. Unfortunately, many in the general public could care less about our helmets. It can be a lonely life assembling an excellent collection. One good thing about the forum is that we can share our treasures with fellows that have also been struck with our addiction and appreciation of these fine pieces of history. Thank you Adler for sharing your wonderful collection. Brian

That brings to mind dating again after my divorce from the 1st and only ex... One woman came into the 'hobby room' and laughed at the collection. Never saw her again.
On the other hand, my current wife and I met at the ski hill, she was impressed by the helmets and even went 'tank driving' with me at Fort Knox's Patton Museum. Keeper!

:D Ron

Well said Brian and Ron! When 99,99 % af all people see our collections, they don't understand what we're doing... When you meet someone new who's interested, it's a keeper for sure.
I met my wife in the seventies, 2 years after I started collecting. She didn't like it at that time, but understood what it meant for me... and she kept on respecting my collecting-bug...
Today she still knows what I'm doing and even finds the spikies beautiful. We're married for 28 years now and we like it as it is... Long live understanding women!

PS I wanted to write more about all this, but then it might get out boring and not about collecting anymore... :D

My wife could care less about the hobby, but she does like the poeple and friends we have made, she comes with me to the SOS every year, again spends about 10 minutes at the show and is bored, but has a blast spending time with the other wives!!

Now I stated she does not care about the hobby, but she is very supportive of me and collecting in the fact she never complaines when I buy somthing :D

Hey Jame, Your wife does care about the hobby, that is why she asked Maggie to knit her a scarf out of cat hair for you for Christmas:)

hey Adler,

We're coming to Brussels this summer (I'm looking forward to the Military museum there!) any suggestions on other cool museums / collections?

:D Ron

Brussels Army museum is a must.

North of France:
Artois: La Targette
A battlefield museum:

And in the shop (for a 130 euros)

OMG, Ron I just forgot to answer your question #-o ... Shame on me!

Anyway, as just mentionned, the Brussels Army museum is the most impressive and has free entrance.

Also the former estate of Prince Karel near Oostende is very interesting and shows a lot of German naval defence... A tour will take about 3 hours...

Also the Memorial Museum 1917 Passchendaele in Zonnebeke is a fine museum

And in France You can certainly go to Fort de la Pompelle (didn't find website...)

Her's a list of other interesting WW1 musea:

I hope this helped you somehow...

Thanks! The Brussels museum is already on our list and I'll look into the others. We're going to be touring with friends from Germany, so we have to work with their schedule as well.
